WEST BRANCH 34, HOWLAND 0
BELOIT -- Grady Hirst accounted for three touchdowns and Damon Edwards ran for two more in West Branch’s 34-0 win over previously-unbeaten Howland in Eastern Buckeye Conference play Friday.
Hirst completed 16 of 21 passes for 171 yards and a 6-yard touchdown pass to Drake Stryffeler. Hirst also ran for 89 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries.
Hirst had touchdown runs of 3 and 22 yards to give the Warriors a 14-0 lead six minutes into the first quarter.
The Warriors collected 428 total yards while holding Howland to 149.
West Branch improves to 4-0 and will play at Marlington on Friday.
EAST PALESTINE 27, LISBON 13
LISBON -- East Palestine opened up a close game in the second half and beat Lisbon, 27-13, in an Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference opener Friday at War Memorial Stadium.
Both teams are 2-2 on the season.
East Palestine’s Clark Rutledge was 14-of-20 passing for 213 yards and four touchdowns, two apiece to RJ May and Tanner Morrow.
The teams were tied 7-7 at halftime until Rutledge threw three touchdown passes to make it 27-7.
Lisbon scored with three seconds remaining on Devin Kelly’s 4-yard reception from Grant Minor. Kelly scored the first touchdown on a 2-yard run in the first quarter.
Minor was 14-of-28 passing for 232 yards.
Both teams return to action Friday with East Palestine hosting Southern and Lisbon visiting United.
SOUTHERN 24, WELLSVILLE 20
SALINEVILLE -- Chase Utt ran for 120 yards and two touchdowns, including the game winner with five minutes remaining, as Southern beat Wellsville, 24-20, in an Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference opener for its first win of the season.
Both teams are 1-3 this season.
They return to action Friday as Southern travels to East Palestine and Wellsville hosts Valley Christian.
LIBERTY 37, CRESTVIEW 7
COLUMBIANA -- Liberty senior Dawaun Moody ran for 204 yards and scored five touchdowns to carry the Leopards past Crestview, 37-7, Friday.
The Leopards improve to 4-0 and have outscored their foes a combined 143-28 this season. Moody ran for 204 yards and four touchdowns on 15 carries and also had a 34-yard touchdown catch. He has 18 touchdowns on the season.
The Leopards had 353 total yards while Crestview had 123.
Trevor McElhaney led the Rebels with 109 lads on 21 carries.
Crestview scored first on Dylan Stoffer’s 10-yard reception from Braydon Meier.
The Rebels drop to 1-3.
Both teams play Friday as Crestview visits Ravenna Southeast and Liberty travels to Brookfield.
LEETONIA 36, CARDINAL 0
LEETONIA -- Leetonia scored five touchdowns in the first half and blanked Middlefield Cardinals, 36-0, Friday.
The Bears improve to 2-2, while the Huskies are 0-4 and haven’t scored a point this season.
Leetonia quarterback Dylan Johns rant or 149 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries and completed 9-of-10 passes for 134 yards and a score.
Jason King scored on a 21-yard catch and a 13-yard fumble return.
Dylan Brown opened the scoring with a 19-yard run.
Brayden Gainey had eight catches for 113 yards.
The Bears outgained the Huskies 356-78 in total yards.
