WEST BRANCH 42, MARLINGTON 0
ALLIANCE -- State-ranked West Branch did all its damage in the first half and defeated Marlington, 42-0, Friday.
The Warriors, ranked eighth in the Division IV state poll, are 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference.
West Branch quarterback and Youngstown State commit Grady Hirst accounted for four touchdowns. He was 14-of-17 passing for 259 yards and ran for a team-high 54 yards and one touchdown on seven carries.
Hirst opened the scoring with a 1-yard run and followed with touchdown passes of 7 and 18 yards to Gavin Marshall and 63 yards to JJ Marra.
Drake Stryffeler also scored on a 56-yard punt return. Stryffeler also had four catches for 73 yards and 23 yards rushing on three attempts.
Colton Stillion had an interception defensively.
West Branch had more total yards, 426-83.
The Dukes drop to 2-3 and 1-1 in the EBC.
West Branch will host Canfield on Friday.
MATHEWS 32, LEETONIA 28
LEETONIA -- Mathews railied from a 14-point deficit in the third quarter to beat Leetonia, 32-28, Friday.
Quarterback Caden Brubaker ran 16 yards around the right side for the game-winning touchdown with 1:52 remaining in the game.
Leetonia advanced to the Mathews 8-yard line with 42 seconds remaining, but a low snap and an intentional grounding penalty ended the threat.
Mathews outgunned Leetonia 332-24 on the ground and was 0-of-3 passing.
Leetonia quarterback Dylan Johns was 25-of-30 passing for 393 yards and four touchdowns with one interception.
Dylan Brown had eight catches for 199 yards and two touchdowns and Brayden Gainey had 11 catches for 154 yards and two touchdowns.
Armani Young made a team-high 6 1/2 tackles for Leetonia. Morgan Bauman had 5 1/2 tackles.
Leetonia (2-3) plays at Pymatuning Valley on Friday.
Mathews (3-2) hosts Weirton Madonna on Friday.
WOODMORE 34, COLUMBIANA 7
COLUMBIANA -- Elmore Woodmore took a 14-0 lead and rolled over Columbiana, 34-7, Friday.
The Clippers pulled within 14-7 before Woodmore scored the final 20 points.
The Wildcats, who are 5-0, scored more than 40 points in each of their first four games.
Columbiana lost its second in a row to drop to 3-2. The Clippers will play at Southern on Friday.
VALLEY 23, WELLSVILLE 7
WELLSVILLE -- Valley Christian won its first game of the season by downing Wellsville, 23-7, in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play Friday.
The Eagles led 7-0 at halftime and the Tigers tied the game on an Ethan Morris interception return in the third quarter.
Valley scored the final 16 points for the victory. The Eagles only scored 19 points in their first four games.
Both teams are 1-4 overall with the Eagles 1-1 in league play and the Tigers 0-2.
Wellsville hosts East Palestine on Friday, while Valley hosts Lisbon next Saturday.
RAVENNA SOUTHEAST 27, CRESTVIEW 21
RAVENNA -- Ravenna Southeast’s Tyler Shaw bulled into the end zone from 5 yards out with 2:13 remaining to give the Pirates a 27-21 win over Crestview on Friday.
The game was tied 21-21 in the third quarter.
Crestview moves to 1-4 on the season and will host Brookfield on Friday.
Ravenna Southeast improves to 2-3 and will host 5-0 Garrettsville Garfield on Friday.
EAST LIVERPOOL 41, ST. CLAIRSVILLE 14
EAST LIVERPOOL -- East Liverpool scored the final 29 points and beat St. Clairsville, 41-14, Friday at Patterson Field.
East Liverpool, ranked 16th in the Division IV state poll, improves to 3-2 overall. The Potters will play at Cambridge on Friday.
St. Clairsville drops to 0-5, including losses to Beaver Local and West Branch.
The Red Devils took a 14-12 lead in the second quarter on an Owen Williams 52-yard interception return.
TORONTO 28, OAK GLEN 7
TORONTO -- State-ranked Toronto defeated Oak Glen, 28-7, Friday.
Toronto, ranked 10th in the Ohio Division VII state poll, remains unbeaten at 5-0. The Red Knights entertain Edison on Friday.
Oak Glen (1-3) hosts Buckeye Local on Friday.
