COLUMBIANA 41, VALLEY 7
COLUMBIANA -- Columbiana scored 27 points in the second quarter and pulled away from Valley Christian for a 41-7 win in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference play Friday.
The Clippers led 34-0 at halftime and were up 41-0 in the second half.
Columbiana improves to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the EOAC heading into Friday’s game at Wellsville.
Valley drops to 1-6 and 1-2 in league play. Valley hosts United next Saturday.
CRESTVIEW 49, NEWTON FALLS 14
NEWTON FALLS -- Hayden Davis and Trevor McElhaney each scored three touchdowns as Crestview routed Newton Falls, 49-14, Friday.
McElhaney ran for 190 yards on 17 carries and Davis had 188 yards on 11 carries.
After taking a 7-6 lead, Davis scored his third touchdown on the first play of the second quarter to make it 28-6.
The Rebels jumped ahead 43-6 by halftime.
It snapped a four-game losing streak for the Rebels.
Both teams are 2-5 on the season and return to action Friday with Crestview at Champion and Newton Falls at unbeaten Garrettsville Garfield.
GRAND VALLEY 40, LEETONIA 14
ORWELL -- Grand Valley held Leetonia to 53 total yardds in a 40-14 win Friday.
The loss was the third in a row for the Bears, who drop to 2-5. Grand Valley improves to 5-2.
The Mustangs opened up a 33-0 first-quarter lead, scoring on runs of 62, 38 and 27 yards and passes of 83 and 25 yards.
Leetonia got both of its touchdowns in the third quarter. Dylan Johns threw touchdown passes to Graydon Henderson and Brayden Gainey.
Grant Valley had 264 yards rushing to minus-6 for Leetonia. The Mustangs had more total yards (399-53).
Johns was 11-of-18 passing for 59 yards and ran for 16 yards on four carries. Gainey had six receptions for 34 yards. Jason King had an interception for the Bears defense.
Both teams play Friday as
Leetonia will host Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas on Friday. The Knights are coming off a 44-6 loss at Minerva.
WEST BRANCH 31, CARROLLTON 7
CARROLLTON -- West Branch remained unbeaten in the Eastern Buckeye Conference with a 31-7 win over Carrollton on Friday.
West Branch led 16-0 in the first quarter and 31-0 at halftime.
Grady Hirst had three touchdowns runs and was 15-of-22 passing for 217 yards with a 38-yard touchdown pass to Gavin Marshall.
The West Branch defense was led by Damon Edwards with three tackles for losses and six tackles total, Jeremy Ramsey with an interception and Landon Coffee with a blocked punt.
West Branch is 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the EBC, tied with Salem for first place. Carrollton falls to 1-6 and 0-3 in league play.
Both teams play Friday as West Branch visits Minerva and Carrollton travels to Marlington.
