Warrior boys send nine wrestlers to district tournament

BELOIT — West Branch’s wrestling team pushed nine wrestlers into the district tournament after action on Saturday at the Div. II sectional at West Branch. Finishing first for the Warriors were Gavin Hang (215) and Beau Nezbeth (150). Second place went to Justin Marra (157) and Chase Sanor (132). Jackson McDonald (106), Carter Day (113), Kase Stryffeler (120), Mahlon Fritz (126) and Cameron Mason (138)were fourth. Salem’s Mackston Ellis was the lone Quaker to advance as he placed third at 175. The district meet is set for Friday and Saturday at Kenston. Div. III ...

Salem girls win sectional

AVON LAKE — Salem’s girls wrestling team won the sectional title on Sunday at the girls wrestling meet at Avon Lake High School. The Quakers scored 121 points to top the hosts who had 106.5 points in second place. Champions for the Quakers include Delaney Callahan (115), Paige Menough (140) and Amber Le Bourdais (145). Lyric McCullough took third (170). Finishing fourth for the Quakers was Chaya Murray (130). Those Quakers will head to the district meet set for next Sunday at Mentor High School. CANTON — Salem High School senior Ryan Folger ended his prep swimming career on the podium at the Div. II state swimming meet on Friday at C.T. Branin Natatorium. Folger swam the 100-yard butterfly championship final in 50.52 to take seventh. Oak Harbour senior Austin Sorg won the event in 47.68. Paul Mooney of University School was second in 48.45. Midwest is the best COLUMBUS — The Midwest Athletic Conference ruled the Ohio Division II boys high school bowling tournament Friday. Three MAC schools reached the semifinals at H.P. Lanes with St. Henry beating Coldwater in a match that went five baker games. St. Henry had games of 169-212-188-165-180, while Coldwater had had games of 174-179-164-167-168, while Coldwater led at the end of the individual series with 3,081 pins. LISBON — It wasn’t a good day for the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference boys basketball champions on Thursday. Both Lisbon and Columbiana saw their seasons come to an end in the Div. VI sectional opener. No. 7 seed Lisbon fell behind by 19 at the half, but climbed to within one point with 12 seconds to play against No. 16 Springfield, but the Tigers picked up a key offensive rebound off a free throw attempt in the final seconds and converted it for two to come away with a 71-67 win.
