SALEM — Salem's boys golf team topped Springfield Local 183-190 on Wednesday at Salem Hills. Gabe Leek led Salem with a 45, while Eli James, Caden Arcuri and Donald Blackburn each shot 46. Springfield Local was led by Cooper Ensley with a 41. Payten Schultz shot an unlisted score, while Aiden Ehrnart and Anthony Crump each carded 50. Salem improved to 2-4 overall. HOPPEL WON TWO FOR THE POTTERS CALCUTTA — Darryl Hoppel, one of East Liverpool's greatest wrestlers, died on Saturday at the age of 89. Hoppel is the only East Liverpool High School wrestler to win two state titles — the 121-pound title in 1954 and the 128-pound title in 1955. In his senior year Hoppel won 15 of 16 matches with his only blemish being a draw.
