AUSTINTOWN — Southern Local senior Maddy Jones qualified for the state track and field meet with a third-place showing in the shot put on Wednesday with a best throw of 38 feet, 6 1/2 inches at the Div. IV regional meet at Austintown Fitch. Jones hit that mark on her second throw. She fouled on the last three attempts. Norwayne's Haley Bittinger was first (40-1 1/4) and her teammate Hannah Froelich was second (39-11 3/4). UNITY — No. 13 seed Bristol rallied for five runs in the seventh to force extras and scored two in the eighth to dump No. 9 Heartland 8-6 on Wednesday in a Div. VII district semifinal.
