Salem, United win Top Gun titles

ALLIANCE — Salem’s Paige Menough won at 140 pounds and United’s Auston Brown took the 135 title on Saturday at the Top Gun Girls Tournament at Alliance High School. United’s Taylor Simmons was second at 120 pounds, while the Golden Eagles’ Hadley Taylor was second at 170. West Branch’s Grace Bates was second at 155. United finished fourth as a team, while Salem was sixth. Austintown Fitch was the team champion.

Ursuline handles Quakers

Beaver senior pulls off rare feat

WHEELING, W.Va. – Beaver Local and Ohio Valley Athletic Conference history was made on Saturday at the 72nd annual Ron Mauck Wrestling Championships at WesBanco Arena. It wasn’t easy however. While still in the midst of recovering from a knee injury, Beaver Local senior Robert Buchheit became the eighth wrestler to win four individual OVAC titles as he won at 150 pounds. Buchheit also won at 120 as a freshman; 132 as a sophomore and 138 as a junior. He posted a narrow 1-0 victory over Cambridge’s Marshall Laishley in the final.
