Crestview bumps off East Liverpool

EAST LIVERPOOL -- After losing to eventual Division III state champion Mentor Lake Catholic in the regional semifinals last year, the Crestview Rebels have been waiting for another shot this season.
"It's going to be a good season, I can't wait," said Crestview senior Grace Auer, who has has one goal for the season. "To make it past regionals and go to state."
That road started Wednesday night as the Rebels began their season with a 25-15, 25-18, 25-14 sweep of the East Liverpool Potters.
"Our plan was to just stay calm and control our side of the court," Rebels coach Alisha Auer said.
The Rebels were led by 6-foot-3 junior Abbey Emch with 17 kills, five blocks and eight digs, Grace Auer with 10 kills, 19 assists, one block, six aces, 17 digs and 18 points. Lainy Auer added seven kills, 12 assists and one block and Julia Blasko had 17 points, 14 digs, three aces, one block and six kills.
"Our hustle was pretty amazing," Emch said. "I think tonight and that's just the first step of what the season is going to look like."
East Liverpool came up short in a 69-minute match.
"A couple of times we closed within three or four points," said Potters coach Dan McKinstry. "We did a lot of good things, we just have to clean it up."
The Potters were led by Kamryn Yanni with 11 assists and Ayla Brown with three kills and one ace. Paityn Maze added five kills and nine assists, while Faith Grafton had 17 digs and three assists.
East Liverpool picked up the win in the junior varsity match ,23-25, 25-18, 25-11.
The Potters were led by Addi Rudibaugh with two aces, seven kills, and three blocks. Lauren Porter added six kills and Kate Davis had 11 kills and four aces.
Bailey Ash had 20 digs, seven points and one ace for the Rebels. Abby Boyarko finished with 10 kills and one ace.
The freshman match was won by Crestview, 25-9, 25-4. The Rebels were led by Kerrigan Miller with 10 aces and Addison Wendell with 10 assists. The Potters were led by Caydence Wright, who had two assists.
Both teams play on the road today with Crestview at Liberty and East Liverpool at Brooke.

Heartland 1
LISBON -- Lisbon improved to 2-0 on the season by downing Heartland Christian, 11-25, 25-11, 25-18, 25-18, Wednesday.
Stefanee Stacey had 10 points and 18 assists and Maddie Marshalek 10 points and four blocks for the balanced Blue Devils. Eliza Baker collected nine points, 10 kills and 13 digs and Izzy Lannon nine points, five kills and 12 digs. Chloe Dowd made 18 digs
Lisbon (2-0) is at home tomorrow against Southern Local
Heartland won the junior varsity match, 25-18, 25-22. Abby Ammon served 10 points for Lisbon.
The Blue Devils will host Southern Local today.
