Shivers, Perry still competing
YOUNGSTOWN -- Former two-time champions Anthony Shivers and Dominic Perry still have it.
Both won their specialties at the YSU Mid-Major Invitational at WATTS over the weekend.
Shivers, now a Salem assistant track coach, topped the men's discus with a winning toss of 177-feet-0 Friday. He had the top four throws, all over 170 feet.
Perry, a fifth-year YSU student and former Crestview High School state champion, won the men's shot put by nearly 3 feet (58-8 3/4) Saturday. All six of his throws went over 56 feet, including four over 57 feet.
YSU sophomore Connor Shingleton from Minerva was first out of 64 runners in the men's mile (4:18.28). He teamed with YSU senior Joey Stafford from Minerva on the distance medley team that was second (10:06.88).
YSU junior Coleson Kertesz from Springfield was third in the discus (160-4) and seventh in the shot put (49-5).
YSU senior Luke Baun from South Range was 11th in the mile (4:24.25).
Former Rebels do well
YOUNGSTOWN --Former Crestview High School standouts Krista Perry and Shelby Rambo had high finishes at the YSU Mid-Major Invitational at WATTS over the weekend.
Perry, a YSU junior, was third in the women's weight throw (53-feet-2 1/2) and fourth in the discus (123-5).
Rambo, a Westminster sophomore, was third in the discus (126-4) and 11th in the shot put (37-11 1/2).
Former East Palestine High School standout Alexis Cunningham, running unattached, was fourth in the mile (5:09.90), fifth in the 3,000 meters (10:42.21) and seventh in the 800 meters (2:21.88).
YSU senior Teddi Kinsey from Beaver Local was eighth in the pentathlon (3,015 points). She won the 60-meter hurdles race (9.04 seconds).
