The gas leaked into the sewer system, so first responders are going to houses in the area.

Residents are being advised to stay in their homes, and if you are in the vicinity of Summer and Lisbon streets, not to smoke and remain out of the area if possible.

USIC, Columbia Gas and the Leetonia and Columbiana fire departments are on the scene.

According to Leetonia fire officials, when crews that were digging hit the line, gas shot up 50 feet in the air. People on Somer Street had to evacuate to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
