Rookie Khristian Curtis (1-0) earned the victory by working three-plus innings. Sandusky lawyers may angle for a new trial

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Lawyers for former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky asked Thursday to cancel a court date for a hearing over a claim that an accuser wants to recant allegations that Sandusky sexually abused him years ago. The hearing was scheduled for Sept. 8 in the latest bid by Sandusky's lawyers to secure a new trial for him. SEC goes to war against LSU

The Southeastern Conference filed a lawsuit Thursday against LSU, one of its founding members nearly 100 years ago, to prevent the school from allowing players returning from NFL training camps to play on the Tigers' football team. The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in Birmingham, Alabama — the SEC's headquarters — and asks for a court injunction barring LSU from violating the SEC's First Amendment rights by forcing it to "associate with conduct that is contrary to the conference's purpose and mission."
