Voters retain most incumbents in township trustee races
LISBON — There were a few upsets in trustee races around the county, but a number of townships voted to retain those people who have already been serving them.
In Liverpool Township incumbent Steven Betteridge was upset by Dennis Giambroni, who was the top vote getter with 34.5 percent of the votes. Incumbent Mike Bahen retained his seat with 31 percent of the votes. There will also be a change of fiscal officer in the township with Cristine Sell upset by Judi A. Smit, who received nearly 59 percent of the votes.
Likewise incumbent Robert F. Marra II was upset by Joe Medure, who received 37 percent of the votes in Franklin Township. The other incumbent, Mike Lutz received 33 percent to retain his seat.
Retired sheriff’s deputy Anthony Sweeney was the top vote getter for Elkrun Township Trustee with 34 percent. He will be joined by incumbent Kurt Seachrist, who had nearly 33 percent of the votes.
James Armeni Sr., a former Salem councilman and former city auditor, led all candidates for Perry Township trustee to join incumbent Don Rudibaugh on the board.
Thomas G. Sanor retained his seat on the Butler Township Board of Trustees pulling 35 percent of the votes. He will be joined by Matthew S. Hall, who received 26 percent of the votes to take the other seat.
Kenneth Schreffler and Greg Shrive both retained their seats in Center Township, with nearly 33 percent and 30 percent of the votes respectively.
All three of Fairfield Township trustees will return — Bob Hum, Barry Miner and John Garwood.
Wayne Chamberlain and Gary Williams retained their seats in Madison Township, as did Gregory Lipp and Nancy Michaels in Middleton Township.
James Sabatini II doubled the votes of any challengers in St. Clair Township. Incumbent Robert Swickard (18.67 percent) narrowly edged out Randy L. Schneider (18.15 percent) to retain his seat.
John Wilms and William Heston both will return on the Salem Township board, as will Unity Township incumbents Bryan R. Henderson and Kathy McCarthy. Additionally, Jim May and Edward Daily both held onto their seats in Wayne Township.
Dale L. Lowmiller held onto his seat, leading all the candidates in West Township with 36.8 percent of the votes. He will be joined on the board by John Olenik, who edged Wesley Johnson by a 3 percent margin.
