Historic organ restored
Pastor Doug George of Salem United Methodist Church stands in front of the newly restored and augmented historic pipe organ which made its debut on Easter Sunday. The organ was originally installed in 1910 by the Wirsching Organ Company of Salem. Clark Wilson, owner of JC Wilson & Associates Pipe Organs of East Liverpool, refurbished the organ and merged it with parts from an Aeolian-Skinner performance recital organ the church purchased from Ohio State. The augmented Wirsching Organ now features 32 ranks or 1,952 pipes, with each rank including 61 pipes and each pipe representing a note or pitch. Church trustee Philip Buchmann coordinated the construction component of the project, overseeing the electrical work and doing the carpentry work with assistance from other church members.
