South Range school board selects new superintendent
CANFIELD – The South Range school board has hired Jarred Zapolnik as the district’s next superintendent.
School board President Brian Bagwell issued a press release Monday announcing the hire. Zapolnik will assume leadership duties Aug. 1.
In the release, Bagwell said a after a statewide search using the complementary services of the [Mahoning County] educational service center, consideration of feedback from the community survey and a comprehensive review of the top candidate applications, resumes and references, the school board is confident Zapolnik is the right leader for the job.
Bagwell noted Zapolnik is known for his ability to foster positive school culture by empowering students, parents, staff and community members, and the results of his efforts are shown through his improved student achievement scores and performance index growth on the most recent state report card while serving as principal to over 1,000 students at Massillon City Schools.
Bagwell said the school board considered placing an interim into the position, but felt it was in the best interest of the district and its families to search now so that the students, staff and parents can feel confident moving into the next school year.
“Consistency in leadership is a priority for this board, so moving from [Bethany] Carlson to an interim for one school year to another superintendent was only something the board was willing to do if it was not satisfied with the candidate search. However, the board was pleased with the pool of candidates,” explained Bagwell. “We are excited for Zapolnik to take over in August and feel his vision, values and leadership style make him the ideal person for both our families and our district.”
Zapolnik said, “I’m humbled and honored to join such a wonderful district with a rich tradition of excellence in academics, arts and athletics. Those who have come before have laid the foundation of a high standard of excellence. I’m blessed and excited to be part of this wonderful team to collaborate with the whole community and staff to meet the needs of the students and our district’s vision and mission. It’s the Raider Way!”
