Work continues on new Crestview campus
COLUMBIANA — Work is continuing to move swiftly on the new PK-12 campus for Crestview Local Schools with the bulk of the project now shifted to the north end of the site near the football stadium.
The school district recently released an update on the project, stating that the work has been sequenced to move from the south end of the site, which is along Crestview Road, to the north end of the site.
The 167,035-square-foot facility is still on track to be operational by the 2026-27 school year.
Work has commenced quickly with the Hammond Construction team following the April 2024 groundbreaking.
According to the district, 120 construction workers are on site every day, and their work will be focused on reaching full enclosure and completing interior finishes through 2026.
District Superintendent Dan Hill has previously pointed out that Hammond Construction was the Construction Manager at Risk for the new United Local School building and was also awarded the construction contract for the Salem School District’s new building project.
“We have taken bits and pieces from other schools on design,” Hill has said.
He also said that Wadsworth School District also used Holabird & Root, the same architect that Crestview is using and that school officials toured the Wadsworth facility during the 2016-17 school year to gather design ideas.
As for what is already completed, the district said that the southern half of the building, which includes the student dining area, kitchen, kindergarten wing, and two-story elementary and middle school wings, is 90 percent complete and now fully enclosed with roofing, windows and exterior facade.
“The interior walls in this portion of the building are complete, with ongoing work to finish drywall installation, paint and mechanical/electrical/plumbing, or ‘MEP’ rough-ins,” the district stated in a press release announcing the progress.
Meanwhile, the northern half of the school features a two-story high school wing, competition gymnasium, athletic support areas and the band and choir classrooms.
In the two-story high school wing, roofing is installed and the exterior façade work is nearing completion. Contractors are currently working on the interior framing, drywall and MEP rough-ins in this area, the district said.
The competition gym at the northernmost end of the site, easily identified by its curved roof, was the last area of the building to be constructed, the district said.
In this area, the roof installation is substantially complete, and exterior walls are 80 percent complete. Exterior facade work and window installation will follow. The gym floor is currently being stoned and prepped for a concrete pour in the coming weeks, according to the press release.
