EAST PALESTINE — Village residents can consult more than 30 local experts during a home repair fair set for Saturday, April 18.
The event, which is sponsored by EPACT (East Palestine A Community Together), is being held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Way Station, 109 W. Rebecca St. in East Palestine.
Lenny Glavan, chair of the East Palestine Chamber of Commerce and a village councilman, said he wants residents to know they are not alone in wanting to make improvements to their homes.
EPACT is a not-for-profit organization created to foster a vibrant, forward-thinking and cooperative community that harnesses its diverse talents to propel it to a future rife with optimism and innovation, he added.
The event is free and open to the public and connects attendees with local contractors, service providers and home repair professionals.
County resources with financial assistance also will be available, explained Glavan.
“For years recipients lacked clear resources and accountability when it came to home repairs,” he explained.
Armed with a “help your neighbor” mindset, Glavan leads coordination of the event, which boasts a committed group of volunteers, business owners and a strengthened building department.
Students from East Palestine High School’s Project EP class also assisted with the outreach, advertising and logistics for the event, gaining real world experience, Glavan added.
“This is about connecting people to real solutions and bring new resources to our community,” he said.
He said he hopes the home repair fair will become an annual event.
In attendance will be contractors, landscapers, electricians and plumbers as well as heating and cooling experts and those involved in the real estate field.
Representatives from Direction Home of Eastern Ohio also will be present to answer questions from senior citizens about available services and the home modification program.
