Jury trial remains set June 2 in 2025 East Liverpool murder

LISBON — A jury trial remains set June 2 in the aggravated murder case against Daniel C. Whitley for the May 2025 shooting death of James Powell, but with another status hearing set for 1:40 p.m. May 8. Whitley, 34, Wilbert Avenue, East Liverpool, appeared in the custody of Columbiana County sheriff deputies before county Common Pleas Court Judge Megan Bickerton. SALEM — The downtown committee discussed potentially revising a long-time restriction of the city’s Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) ahead of its pending renewal. First approved by the city council in 2019, the DORA allows people to purchase alcohol from a participating bar or restaurant in a designated cup and freely walk around within its boundaries during DORA hours.
