Salem residents may be able to have WIC benefit cards refilled at health department

SALEM — Salem residents receiving benefits through the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) may soon be able to have their benefit cards refilled at the health department. During the board of health’s June meeting, Health Commissioner Chelsea Clark told the board that she had spoken with WIC about potentially setting a monthly refill date in Salem. YOUNGSTOWN — The burden is on local governments, school districts and the county itself to provide tax relief for homeowners. Mahoning County commissioners Tuesday approved a last-minute resolution that will double the owner-occupied tax credit. The change will go into effect next year and will be collected in 2028. Right now, the 1971 law that implemented the 2,5% tax credit provides reimbursement from Columbus to counties for the cost of the tax revenue that would otherwise be lost. Crestview looking at applicants for maintenance supervisor

COLUMBIANA — The Crestview Local School District is considering applicants for a new maintenance supervisor following the retirement of Jay Radman. Radman worked for the district for 28 years and had 33 total years of experience in school maintenance, District Superintendent Daniel Hill said. 2 civil lawsuits filed in crash that killed trooper on Route 11 in Mahoning County

YOUNGSTOWN (WKBN) – Two civil lawsuits have been filed in connection with a crash that killed a local trooper on State Route 11 in Mahoning County. Trooper Nicholas Cayton was killed in October 2025 when his cruiser was rear-ended by a Mack truck driven by a Canfield man. Cayton had stopped to assist a disabled tractor-trailer along Route 11, just south of Route 224, when the crash happened.
