Appeal of vicious designation for second dog in attack dropped

LISBON — The owner of the second dog accused of attacking and seriously injuring a woman on May 15 at Lake Tomahawk dropped her appeal over the vicious dog designation against her dog, Beau, last week. Laurel Brothers, Youngstown, filed the complaint through her attorneys Chris Amato and Frank Williams against the Columbiana County Dog Warden Heidi Wallace, seeking a hearing in county Municipal Court to reverse the designation, claiming “the decision was arbitrary, capricious and unsupported by the evidence.” But before the hearing, which was set for June 15, her counsel moved ...

Columbiana School District eyes streamlined communication

COLUMBIANA — The Columbiana School District wants to make communication more streamlined between staff, parents and students. District Superintendent Dr. Don Mook provided information to the board of education this month outlining the communications app he recommends for that streamlining. Pedestrian hit, killed in Perry Township identified: OSHP

PERRY TWP. (WKBN) — The Ohio State Highway Patrol has identified the pedestrian hit in an accident in Perry Township Friday night. According to OSHP Lisbon, an Oldsmobile traveled off the right side of the roadway and hit a pedestrian, identified by OSHP as Amanda J. Speigle, 35, of Salem, at 6:17 p.m. on State Route 45 in front of the Salem Golf Club. Speigle was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and she later passed away at the hospital, according to OSHP. The driver of the car was unharmed. West Branch school board approves updates, financing for Knox school

BELOIT — The West Branch school board will be updating the heating and cooling systems at Knox Elementary. The board recently contracted with TRANE for the project and approved a lease purchase agreement to finance it. Superintendent Matthew Manley said the project will include a new roof, boilers and eco-management system to make the building more energy efficient.
