SEBRING – Sebring BL Miller third-grade students have been patiently waiting for their chicks to hatch. Their chicks and ducklings began hatching on April 29 after the students’ careful incubation of the chicks.

The third grade classes launched the annual “habitat project” with chick and duck eggs donated by third-grade student Tempie Hunter, BL Miller Principal Nichole Hanley and The OSU Extension Meyer Hatchery. Incubators were also provided by Meyer Hatchery through a grant.

Throughout the month of April students tracked the progress of the eggs on a chart. Students were responsible for journaling temperature and humidity each day, and then eventually the growth. The OSU Extension also provided a special “candeling” activity, where students shined a light into the eggs to track development.

The project included 22 chicken eggs, two duck eggs (“Ancona” ducks) and two turkey eggs (the school’s first time for turkeys).

Starting at $2.99/week.
