Winona Ruritan Club

WINONA — The Winona Ruritan Club met July 22 at the Winona Friends Church. In the absence of President Rob Doyle Jr. (on delivery watch for his first grandson), Secretary E. Lee Stamp called the meeting to order. After welcoming members, Stamp asked everyone to rise and sing “America.”

Member Homer Althouse gave the Invocation. The caterer served a meal of tossed salad with dressing, meatballs and rigatoni in red sauce, green beans, dinner rolls with butter, beverages and apple pie.

Stamp then called the roll of member, with 20 being present; six members were absent. Stamp then read the minutes of the June 24 steak fry meeting and the July 15 board of directors meeting. There were no question, additions or changes, and the minutes stood approved as read.

Treasurer Bob Doyle Sr. gave his detailed financial report for the month of June. There were no questions and it stood approved as given.

There was no unfinished business to address. Under new business, Bruce Marhefka made a motion to donate $45 per month to the Winona Flax Scutching Festival Assoc. Inc. (Hall Park) to help pay for electric at the club’s two freezers and one refrigerator use for the whole hog sausage storage. Over the past four years the club has used Hall Park’s electric and made no reimbursement. The motion passed unanimously.

An inventory has been taken of the paper products needed for the upcoming Oct. 11 whole hog sausage and pancake breakfast, and items were ordered and have been received. Other needed items have been put on order and should be available in early August. Member Anthony Russo made a motion to send another donation to the Samaritans Purse for $500 to help them in their flood relief efforts in Texas, New Mexico, North Carolina and New York. The motion also passed unanimously.

There were two members with birthdays in July: David Gillis and Phillip Winn. Everybody sang Happy Birthday to them.

Volunteers are being sought to help install the vinyl siding on the storage shed and should let Stamp know if they can help.

The club has a number of gun raffle tickets to sell for the Oct. 28 raffle.

With no other business brought forth, Stamp asked everyone to stand and pledge allegiance to the American flag.

Starting at $2.99/week.
