Salem — A structure fire was reported in the 300 block of East Euclid Street at 5:09 a.m. Monday. When firefighters arrived, smoke was visible inside the building, and they were met by employees of the business that took them to the area where the fire occurred. The fire had been mostly extinguished by employees with fire extinguishers and was confined to a workstation where employees advised an oil line appeared to have burst. LISBON – The Lisbon Ruritan Club is seeking volunteers to continue making apple fritters for the Johnny Appleseed Festival. The club has been making and selling apple fritters at the festive since 1968. In the early 1980s the club had approximately 50 members and prepared and cooked about 175 gallons of fritter batter, using seven fryers. In the late 1990s and early 2000s, it settled in with about 22 members and 120 gallons of batter and four fryers. Courthouse bailiffs injured when prisoner attempts escape

LISBON — A Wellsville man injured two security bailiffs Monday when he attempted to escape from the Columbiana County Courthouse after being sentenced to prison for a year on multiple counts, including aggravated assault. Now he’s potentially facing more time, with Sheriff Brian McLaughlin saying charges expected to be filed for this incident include two counts of felony assault against police officers, felony escape and resisting arrest. Tim Ryan, who represented the Mahoning Valley in the U.S. House for 20 years, was among 20 people named to the Commission on AI and the Future of the American Workforce.
