Sheriff’s Office

— A person on Carter Road, Unity Township, called at 10:55 p.m. Thursday to request an ambulance to go to the hospital due to mental health and medical issues. A deputy stood by and Columbiana EMS transported the person to a hospital in Mahoning County.

— The Canton post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol at 2:15 a.m. Thursday requested a deputy go to an address on state Route 518, Franklin Township, to make contact with a person regarding a relative troopers arrested. Deputies made contact and advised the person to contact the Canton OSHP post.

— A deputy was dispatched at 10:41 p.m. Dec. 18 to Rosebud Mining Co., Myers Road, West Township, for a suspicious vehicle sitting at the front entrance by the gate. A deputy checked the area, with no contact made with anyone.

— An employee of Duke and Duchess, U.S. Route 62, Knox Township, reported at 11:16 p.m. Dec. 17 that a small baggie with residue inside and a spoon with residue were found in the parking lot. A deputy collected the items and disposed of them at the sheriff’s office.

— A deputy was dispatched at 4 p.m. Dec. 17 to state Route 45, Salem Township, for packages that fell out of the back of a FedEx truck. The deputy returned the packages to their owners.

Salem

— Officers responded to the 400 block of Sharp Avenue at 10:37 p.m. Saturday for a report of a person knocking on a door. The person was gone prior to officers’ arrival but footprints in the snow were followed, and officers observed an open door on a nearby building, which was searched, and nobody was located.

— Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 6:35 p.m. Saturday for a reported reckless operator. The caller advised the vehicle went left of center several times before pulling into Walmart. Officers checked the parking lot but did not locate the vehicle in question.

— Officers responded to the 2300 block of East State Street at 3:54 p.m. Saturday for a report of threats made. The caller advised the husband of a recently terminated employee called him threatening physical harm. The caller did not want to pursue charges at that time but wanted a report on file.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 2:19 p.m. Saturday to speak with officers about items she had returned to another party. The caller advised that the other party resides with her and was accusing her of stealing an air purifier and threatening her with charges. The caller dropped the air purifier off to the other half and took a picture of it left there, texted her, knocked on her door and honked the horn with no reply, and wanted the incident documented.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of Vine Avenue at 12:23 p.m. Saturday for a reported unruly juvenile. The caller advised his juvenile daughter will not return home and that he does not have custody of the juvenile. The mother of the juvenile was on her way to get her from Pennsylvania, and officers provided further information to both the mother and the caller for guardianship through the courts.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of Brooklyn Avenue at 11:57 p.m. Friday for a reported noise complaint. Officers spoke with the resident who was playing drums and was advised to keep it down for the night.

— Officers responded to the 1600 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 11:15 p.m. Friday to assist Perry Township with a traffic stop. A K-9 officer was called and a positive indication was observed. Officers assisted Perry Township officers with a vehicle search and no contraband was located.

— Officers responded to the area of Franklin Avenue and Whinnery Road at 7:23 p.m. Friday for a reported hit and skip. The caller advised that a vehicle ran the stop sign and struck the passenger side of their vehicle. The other vehicle involved was not located.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 4:22 p.m. Friday regarding an incident involving their juvenile son. Officers were advised the juvenile got into an altercation after school involving other juveniles. The matter is under investigation.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of Rose Avenue at 3:59 p.m. Friday for a report of a man and woman walking northbound along Rose Avenue who were engaged in a dispute. The individuals reportedly turned down an alley towards Hawley Avenue and officers checked all alleys but did not locate anyone walking and some residents outside along Hawley Avenue advised they had not seen anyone walk by.

— Officers responded to the area of South Lincoln Avenue and Aetna Street at 3:47 p.m. Friday for a report of criminal damaging. The caller advised a man kicked his rear-view mirror causing damage. Officers spoke with the man in question who advised the caller started an altercation between the two. Due to conflicting stories officers obtained statements from both parties and the case will be referred to the Columbiana County Prosecutor’s office.

— Officers responded to the 1700 block of East State Street at 3:33 p.m. Friday for a report of possible animal neglect. Upon investigation officers discovered the incident was occurring outside the city and the caller was referred to the proper police agency.

— Officers spoke with a person at the police department at 3:20 p.m. Friday regarding telecommunications harassment report which had been previously filed. Officers obtained the information and the report was documented.

— Officers spoke with a person at the police department at 1:25 p.m. Friday requesting to file a report over loaned property not being returned. The caller was advised the matter was civil.

— Officers responded to the 2900 block of East State Street at 11:14 a.m. Friday for a reported theft of services from a business. An individual had patronized the business and was unable to pay for services rendered after allegedly forgetting their wallet. The person advised the business’ employees he would return to render payment; however, it had been nearly a week, and the outstanding debt had not been paid. Officers gathered information for further investigation and criminal charges if the issue is not resolved.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 9:57 a.m. Friday regarding an ongoing custody situation. Officers advised the caller a report would be made.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of East State Street at 8:45 a.m. Friday for a report of suspicious activity. The caller advised that a person was seen on video footage trying to break into a locked dumpster in the early hours of the morning. The officers advised the caller an extra patrol would be in the area during the nighttime hours.

— Officers responded to the 1600 block of Franklin Avenue at 7:41 a.m. Friday for a report of a vehicle that slid into a ditch due to weather conditions. Upon arrival officers found the vehicle was in Perry Township and the Perry Township Police Department was contacted to respond.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 1:34 a.m. Friday regarding telecommunication harassment. The man advised that he was being contacted on Snapchat by two juvenile males who he doesn’t want contacting him. The man was only able to provide the juveniles’ first names, and he was advised to block them. Officers will attempt to identify the juveniles and advise them not to have any further contact with the man.

— Officers responded with Salem first responders to the 400 block of South Ellsworth Avenue at 1:03 a.m. Friday for a report of a person having an adverse reaction to prescription medication. It was unknown how much medication the individual ingested, but they were breathing and unresponsive. The individual was subsequently transported to the Salem Regional Medical Center by EMT ambulance.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of South Broadway Avenue at 11:30 p.m. Thursday for a reported suspicious person behind a closed business. Officers located a man pulling the rear door of the closed business attempting to gain entry. The man, Drew Browne, 24, Hanoverton, had pending charges from an earlier incident as well as warrants out of Columbiana County and was taken into custody charged with disorderly conduct, criminal trespass, and criminal damaging. The door to the business was damaged and unable to be secured and photos were taken, and the business was contacted.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of Walnut Street at 10:36 p.m. Thursday for a reported person to be removed. The caller advised an unknown man was knocking on his door and wouldn’t leave. The man left prior to officer’s arrival and officers checked the are but were unable to locate the man.

— Officers responded to the Foundry at 10:08 p.m. Thursday for a reported fight in progress involving a knife. When officers arrived three people began walking towards the alley behind the business and a witness pointed out one of them had attempted to use a knife during the fight. Officers were able to stop that person while the other fled north. Officers spoke to the victim, an employee at the business, and reviewed security footage and observed the two men attempting the fight the employee and the knife being used. That person, Shane Laflame, 23, Lisbon, was taken into custody and transported to the Columbiana County Jail charged with felonious assault, aggravated menacing, and carrying concealed weapons. Shortly after the other man who fled from officers, Drew Browne, 24, Hanoverton, was reported behind Ezios and officers observed him attempting to force entry to the back door. He was taken into custody and had to be medically cleared for injuries to his face and was then transported to Columbiana County Jail for an outstanding warrant and a charge of assault.

— Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 9:46 p.m. Thursday for a reported reckless operator. Officers located the vehicle, observing several violations, and officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the 2200 block of East State Street, and the driver Dylan Bregar, 18, was cited for driving under suspension and a headlight violation.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of South Union Avenue at 9:44 p.m. Thursday for a report of a van parking too close to a driveway. Officers located the vehicle and found no parking violation.

— Officers spoke to a person by phone at 8:23 p.m. Thursday who advised that she had some jewelry come up missing a believes a known man took it. The matter is under investigation.
