Sheriff’s Office
— A deputy was dispatched at 4:24 p.m. Tuesday to the 5700 block of Lower Elkton Road, Fairfield Township, for a person walking in the roadway covered up by a blanket. Nobody was found.
— A deputy was dispatched at 3:21 p.m. Tuesday to the area of Westville Lake Road at Georgetown Road, Knox Township for construction vehicles going to and from the construction of the new Dollar General, causing a traffic hazard. Upon arrival, the construction vehicles were gone for the day.
— A disturbance with people screaming was reported on U.S. Route 62, Knox Township at 11:44 p.m. Saturday. Deputies spoke to the homeowner and observed multiple people there. The homeowner said everything was fine and she was having a Halloween Party.
— A man on Case Road, Knox Township, reported at 9:25 p.m. Saturday that multiple people in a white Audi vehicle were driving at a high rate of speed up and down the roadway. A deputy checked the area, but didn’t find anyone.
Salem
— Officers responded to a business in the 2100 block of East State Street at 6:05 p.m. Monday for a report of yelling outside of the business. The people in question left prior to the officers’ arrival.
— Officers on patrol in the 200 block of Woodland Avenue at 5:47 p.m. Monday observed solicitors and warned them against further soliciting where prohibited.
— Officers responded to the 1600 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 3:20 p.m. Monday for a reported motor vehicle accident. Officers spoke with an occupant of the vehicle who advised that the driver had gone into the store. Officers located the driver, Darla Jones, 70, Salem, who advised that she had pulled into the parking lot and struck a guide wire connected to a telephone pole. Officers documented the damage done, and Jones agreed to a portable breath test, but was unable to complete it due to medical issues. Jones was cited for failure to control, weaving, full time and attention, and was advised that she would be sent for a driving exam retest. A family member responded to the scene to drive the vehicle.
— Officers responded to the 900 block of Homewood Place at 3:11 p.m. Monday for a report of solicitors. Officers spoke with the person in question and advised them of the city laws pertaining to soliciting. Officers also spoke with their manager by phone and advised them of the same.
— Officers responded to the area of North Union Avenue at 12:37 p.m. Monday for a report of suspicious activity. Officers were advised that a person had jumped a fence and unlocked it, and then a van had pulled into a backyard. Officers checked the area and did not locate any vans in any backyards.
— The school resource officer was advised of an issue with students that had occurred over the weekend by school administrators at 12:31 p.m. Monday. The administration was worried about an issue after school during dismissal and just wanted the matter documented in case there was an issue.
— Officers responded to the 800 block of West State Street at 11:45 a.m. Monday to stand by while peer support attempted to help with a housing issue. The person in question declined assistance and departed the area.
— Officers responded to the 800 block of West State Street at 11:10 a.m. Monday for a reported person to be removed. The caller advised that the person was causing issues and that they wanted them off the property. Officers spoke with the person in question, who agreed to leave, and also advised him that he had been trespassed from the property and that he could face criminal charges if he returned.
— Officers responded to the 900 block of West State Street at 7:35 a.m. Monday for a reported intoxicated person. Officers spoke with an employee who advised that the person in question had left.
— Officers responded to the 1200 block of Southeast Boulevard at 9:35 p.m. Sunday for a report of criminal trespassing. The caller advised that he heard someone in the apartment below him which was supposed to be vacant. Officers checked the residence, and nobody was located, and after securing the residence advised the caller to contact them again if he heard anything else.
— Officers responded to the 1000 block of West Perry Street at 8:42 p.m. Sunday for a reported assault. Officers found that the incident had occurred outside of Salem, and the Perry Township Police Department was contacted, and officers stood by until a Perry Township officer arrived. The fire department also responded due to one of the parties requesting medical attention.
— Officers responded to the 1200 block of Southeast Boulevard at 8:13 p.m. Sunday for a reported suspicious person. Officers spoke with both parties and found everything to be okay. Officers also checked the area and did not find anyone else around.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of Walnut Street at 7:22 p.m. Sunday for a reported domestic in progress. Officers spoke with one of the parties who advised that there was an argument between him and another person. He also advised that the other person went upstairs into a different apartment. Officers attempted contact with her, and nobody answered the door.
— Officers responded to the 2100 block of East State Street at 7:03 p.m. Sunday for a report of theft. The caller advised that she witnessed a man open a box, put an item that was inside in their hoodie. When officers arrived, they found that the item was placed on a nearby shelf and no longer on his person. Officers then spoke with the person who advised that he was having breathing problems, so he was going to use the item. They were then trespassed from the establishment.
— Officers spoke to a person by phone at 6:56 p.m. Sunday to report that his 14-year-old son was in Alliance with his girlfriend and that the juvenile told the caller that he was not coming home immediately. The caller advised that his son was on his mother’s time per the courts but was supposed to be back at his father’s residence by 6 p.m. Due to a misunderstanding the caller got upset and communication was terminated before the rest of the report could be gathered. Several attempts were made by phone and in person to contact the caller back, however, he never answered the phone nor the door. Later in the shift contact was made with the juvenile’s mother who advised that the caller was already aware of the exact location of the juvenile and should never have contacted officers.
— Officers responded to the 2500 block of Bentley Drive at 6:24 p.m. Sunday for a reported dispute. The caller advised that a patient was throwing things at the staff. When officers arrived, the patient was calm, and they stood by until the patient was transported to the hospital by EMT.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of Franklin Avenue at 1:12 p.m. Sunday to speak with a man involved in an ongoing investigation of telecommunication’s harassment. Officers attempted to place the man, Ayden Moore,19, Salem, into custody but he pulled away and resisted officers, continuing to fight and ultimately forcing officers to tase him to take him into custody. Moore was evaluated and cleared by EMS and was transported to the Columbiana County Jail charged with telecommunications harassment and resisting arrest.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of East Third Street at 12:58 p.m. Sunday for a report of telecommunications harassment. The caller advised that an ex-boyfriend has continued to call and text her despite being asked to stop. Officers spoke with the man, whose name was not listed, at his residence and he was placed into custody for telecommunications harassment.
— Officers responded to the 2500 block of Bentley Drive at 11:13 a.m. Sunday to assist EMT with a combative patient. When officers arrived, the patient was no longer being aggressive, and EMT transported them to an appropriate medical facility.
— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 9:29 a.m. Sunday regarding a report of theft. The caller advised that a man known to them had stolen multiple bottles of prescription pills, and that they did not want to pursue charges at that time. They also had questions about obtaining a protection order against the man and were referred to the county court for further information.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of Franklin Avenue at 3:43 a.m. Sunday for a reported dispute. The caller advised that their neighbors were outside yelling at each other. Officers spoke with them, and both advised that everything was okay and that they were just outside smoking and talking.
— Officers responded to a business in the 400 block of South Broadway Avenue at 1:11 a.m. Sunday for a reported menacing complaint. The caller advised that a man who had left the business said that he was going to return and “shoot up the place” after being asked to leave due to being accompanied by another man who was less than 21 years old. The bartender for the business advised that they had made vague threats towards them when asked to leave, and when asked what they would do upon returning had motioned to his hip indicating a firearm and no direct threat was made. Officers advised that they would return to the area at closing time to keep an eye out at the caller’s request.
— Officers responded to the 1300 block of East State Street at 11:01 p.m. Saturday for a reported person to be removed. The caller advised that their ex-boyfriend was outside their house screaming at her; however, prior to officers’ arrival they had left in their vehicle. Officers located the vehicle in the 600 block of Aetna Street, and conducted a traffic stop as he was pulling into his driveway in the 400 block. Officers were advised that he was trying to get back money that the caller owed him. Due to signs of alcohol impairment officers conducted roadside tests and took the man, John Seddon III, 63, Salem, into custody for OVI and transported him to the police department for processing and further testing. They were cited for OVI and criminally trespassed from the caller’s property and ultimately transported back to their residence.
— Officers responded to the 600 block of Jennings Avenue at 10:53 p.m. Saturday to assist the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office. Officers checked the residence for a vehicle that was involved in a domestic violence incident but were unable to locate it.
— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 10:59 p.m. Saturday who advised that her ex-boyfriend was following her around town. She advised that he came to her workplace and followed her until she pulled into the police department. Officers advised that they would speak with him and criminally trespass him from the residence; she was also made aware of the options of obtaining a protection order. Officers later located the ex, and he was formally trespassed from the caller’s property.
— Officers responded to the 900 block of South Avenue at 8:51 p.m. Saturday for a report of suspicious activity. The caller advised that kids were running through his yard. Officers spoke with the people in question, and they advised the reason for going through yards.
— Officers spoke to a person at the 2300 block of East State Street at 8:35 p.m. Saturday for a report of counterfeit money. Officers took the 100-dollar bill, and it will be placed in the department’s evidence locker.
— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 8:14 p.m. Saturday for a speak with officer report. The caller advised that someone was touching his truck and hanging on the mirrors. He just wanted a report on file of the incident and there was no damage to his vehicle.
— Officers responded to the 900 block of East Third Street at 7:08 p.m. Saturday for a report of criminal damage. The caller advised that a woman came up to her kitchen window and punched through the window screen
— Officers responded to the area of Sharp Avenue at 7:25 p.m. Saturday for a report of a missing juvenile seen walking. Officers checked the area for several minutes, but the juvenile was not located.
— Officers responded to the area of Southeast Boulevard and East Pershing Street at 6:13 p.m. Saturday for a report of juveniles throwing rocks at a cat. Officers spoke with several people on South Madison Avenue who advised their cat was stuck in a tree, and they were just trying to get it out.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of Fair Avenue at 6:35 p.m. Saturday for a report of an irate woman. Officers found that the woman had left before they arrived.
— Officers on patrol in the area of Filbert Avenue and Franklin Street at 6:07 p.m. Saturday conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a driver’s license violation. Officers spoke with the driver, Pedro Diego, 27, Salem, who was found to be operating the vehicle on an expired license. Due to a suspicion of intoxication, officers had Diego step out of the vehicle and conducted a roadside sobriety test observing no evidence of impairment. Diego was ultimately cited for the expired license, and the vehicle was removed from the scene by Davidson’s Towing.
