Sheriff’s Office
— Chippewa Township Police Department, Beaver County, Pa., requested at 9:24 p.m. Tuesday that a deputy meet them at a residence on Low Road, Elkrun Township, to recover a stolen vehicle tow dolly from their jurisdiction. They had two local men, Johnathan A. Post, Taylor Road, Middleton Township, and Robert L. Byrd III, Denver Street, East Liverpool, in custody in the Beaver County Jail. The vehicle tow dolly was located on the property and retrieved by Sulli’s Towing from Beaver County, Pa.
— A woman on Brookdale Avenue, Unity Township, reported at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday that her 16-year-old daughter was receiving harassing text messages from an unknown number. She was told to block the numbers.
— A custody issue was reported at 7:23 p.m. Tuesday in Unity Township by a New Springfield woman who said she dropped her 6-year-old child off at the property of the father’s relative on Chain School Road, Unity Township and now the father is claiming he’s going to file for emergency custody.
— Columbiana Police Department requested at 2:06 a.m. Tuesday that a deputy respond to an address on Bye Road, Unity Township. They found a motorcycle belonging to the property owner and wanted contact made with him. He was not home and an attempt was made to call him; however, calls went directly to voicemail and the mailbox was full. A message was left for him with his girlfriend for him to call the Ohio State Highway Patrol since Columbiana police turned the case over to the patrol.
— A deputy responded at 5:06 p.m. Monday to the area of state Route 154 in Elkrun Township for a disturbance and spoke with all parties involved. The one person was trespassed from the property and the callers were told to call if any other issues arise.
— A deputy at 4:26 p.m. Monday returned a call to a person regarding a family member talking about self-harm. The person was advised how to proceed.
Salem
— Officers responded to the 200 block of North Cunningham Road at 9:42 p.m. Wednesday for a reported person to be removed. The caller advised that someone had been loitering on the property that was not a guest. Officers spoke with the woman and advised them to leave the premises per the management’s request.
— Officers responded to the 1300 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday for a reported domestic dispute. Officers spoke with both parties and were advised that they had been in a verbal argument with nothing physical and had calmed down. Officers advised them to call back if necessary.
— Officers took a report of theft at the police department at 4:12 p.m. Wednesday. Officers were advised that a wallet was taken from the caller’s vehicle while they were at work and that no bank cards were in the wallet, but it did contain their and their child’s personal information. Officers advised them of their options.
— Officers responded to the 1000 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 1:01 p.m. Wednesday for a reported reckless operator. Officers located the vehicle and spoke with the driver, observing no signs of impairment. The driver was advised to drive safely.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of Columbia Street at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday for a report of alleged child abuse. Officers collected information for the report and advised that the matter would be investigated.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of Continental Drive at 10:07 a.m. Wednesday for a speak with officer complaint. The caller advised that they had an in-home physical therapist appointment that day and after their appointment, the caller’s neighbor pulled the therapist inside their home to make claims of insurance fraud against the caller. Officers spoke to the therapist who advised they were shown videos of the caller that were recorded by the neighbor and that they had dismissed the neighbor, stating that they would not discuss any matters about their patient with anyone else. Officers spoke to the neighbor and advised them that it was none of their business who has what type of physical therapy for any reason.
— Officers on patrol in the 1300 block of East Pershing Street at 9:24 a.m. Wednesday were flagged down for a possibly injured raccoon. The raccoon was found to be in a condition that required euthanasia, and it was humanely put down. The street department responded to remove the carcass, and the health department was notified of the incident.
— Officers responded to the 800 block of West State Street at 2:53 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a semi-truck which had overturned onto its side. Officers found that the trailer was on private property in an empty lot and tipped slightly but still attached to the truck. The driver had contacted the company to get the help needed to correct the problem and officers advised them to contact the department if any assistance was needed.
— Officers responded to the 700 block of East Fifth Street at 10:10 p.m. Tuesday for a report of telecommunications harassment. Officers collected information about the matter and advised the caller that it would be documented and forwarded to the detectives should the issue persist.
— Officers responded to the 800 block of East Fifth Street at 9:38 p.m. Tuesday for a reported barking dog complaint. Officers spoke with the owner, advising them of the complaint, and they took their dog inside.
— Officers responded to the 1100 block of East Third Street at 8:16 p.m. Tuesday for a reported suspicious person who had a note alleging that children were being trafficked. The person in question was the subject of a wellness check earlier in the evening and was found to have active warrants out of Columbiana County. After detaining the man, Joshua Watkins, Salem, officers confirmed the warrant and checked the house in question with the resident’s permission, confirming there was no unusual activity. Officers then placed Watkins under arrest and transported him to the Columbiana County Jail.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of North Ellsworth Avenue at 5:13 p.m. Tuesday for a speak with officer report. The caller advised that she had been assaulted at a business in the 100 block of North Ellsworth Avenue. Officers advised them of their options for dealing with the situation.
— Officers responded to the area of East State Street at 5:01 p.m. Tuesday for a reported reckless operator. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle in question.
— Lorrie Seaver, 74, Canfield, was cited for failure to yield after her vehicle in the 100 block of Sugartree Alley struck a vehicle driven eastbound by Krista Wilson, 37, Salem, while pulling out of a private drive at 4:54 p.m. Tuesday.
— Officers responded to the 1100 block of East Third Street at 4:53 p.m. Tuesday for a wellness check. The caller advised that she hadn’t spoken with her son since August, and officers attempted contact unsuccessfully.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of Ohio Avenue at 3:07 p.m. Tuesday for a reported juvenile complaint. The caller advised that a fellow juvenile was following her home from school and yelling at her. Officers spoke with the other juvenile who denied all wrongdoing, and the juvenile officer was made aware of the issue. The school resource officer will also be notified due to it stemming from school.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of Newgarden Avenue at 12:28 p.m. Tuesday for a reported person to be removed. Officers spoke with the parties involved and determined that there had been a verbal argument and that the homeowner wanted the other parties to leave the property. Officers spoke with the man, and he left the property.
— Officers responded to the 1300 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 3:36 a.m. Tuesday for a reported suspicious odor. The caller advised that they smelled the odor of varnish in their apartment, alleging that it was their neighbor. Officers checked the apartment, and no odor was detected. The caller was advised to report the issue to her landlord and subsequently asked the fire department respond to check the odor, and nothing was detected again.
— Officers responded to the 1300 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 9 p.m. Monday for a report of suspicious activity. Officers spoke with the person in question and found nothing suspicious was going on. Officers advised them to contact their landlord.
— Officers responded to the area of Newgarden Avenue at 6:47 p.m. Monday for a report of assault. Officers spoke with a juvenile who advised that while walking another juvenile had run up to him and punched him in the stomach. Officers spoke with the juvenile’s mother who wanted to pursue charges, and officers contacted the other juvenile who admitted to the incident and advised he was trying to get back chips that the caller had taken from a female with low blood sugar. The case will be forwarded to the juvenile officer.
