Salem
–Officers responded to the 1000 block of West Perry Street at 5:10 p.m. Monday for a report of theft. The caller advised that a home health care worker is possibly stealing cash for her elderly mother. Officers obtained all necessary information. The matter is under investigation.
–Officers on patrol in the 2800 block of East State Street at 4:45 p.m. were flagged down by a woman who advised there was a man with a sign begging for money on Cunningham Road. Officers located the man and advised him that soliciting is not permitted in the city.
–Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 4:36 p.m. who advised that a person living in the city has been making unauthorized transactions through a family member’s account. Information was gathered. The matter is under investigation.
–Officers responded to the 300 block of East Third Street at 3:34 p.m. Monday for a reported dog at large. The caller advised that while their children were getting off the bus two dogs ran off a porch and charged them. No bite occurred and the owner advised that the dogs had gotten loose accidentally. The owner was advised to have the dogs on leash at all times while outside.
–Officers responded to the 500 block of Bank Street at 3:17 p.m. Monday for a report of an intoxicated man yelling and laying in the street. Officers spoke with the man, who was upset and arguing with his girlfriend and advised that he had a ride coming and just wanted to leave. Officers asked the man if he needed any medical attention, which he refused, and left with his ride.
–Officers responded to the 1700 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 2:54 p.m. for a reported hit and skip. Officers collected information and the matter is under investigation.
–Officers on patrol in the 200 block of West Fifth Street at 2:14 p.m. Monday were advised that a dog had been barking non-stop. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the dog.
–Officers responded to the 400 block of Continental Drive at 10:41 a.m. Monday for a medical call. The person in question had left the area prior to the arrival of emergency personnel but was located walking nearby and transported to the Salem Regional Medical Center by EMT.
–Officers responded to the 700 block of West Wilson Street at 10:05 a.m. Monday to deliver a message for the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office. Officers were unable to contact the person in question.
–Officers responded to the 1200 block of East Pershing Street at 7:59 a.m. Monday for a report of a sick raccoon. The animal was put down and a bystander advised to dispose of the carcass.
–Officers responded to the 900 block of East State Street at 6:30 a.m. Monday for a wellness check. Officers were advised a man had entered the gas station stating he was lost. Officers were able to contact the man’s family to take them home.
–Officers responded to the 400 block of East State Street at 2:26 a.m. Monday for a report of suspicious activity. Officers spoke with two people rummaging through the dumpster behind a business and instructed them to clean up the area not to return.
–Officers responded to the area of Southeast Boulevard and Franklin Avenue at 9:10 p.m. Sunday for a wellness check. Officers spoke with the woman who advised that they were having a medical issue and on her way to the hospital when her truck stalled at the stop sign. Officers spoke with a family member of the woman to come pick her up and drive her to the hospital and the vehicle was privately towed.
–Officers responded to the area of Highland Avenue at 6:56 p.m. Sunday for an unknown disturbance. It was advised that several people were in the area cursing at one another and appeared to be about to fight. Officers spoke with a few people in the area who advised that they had not seen nor heard any of what was described going on.
–Officers responded to the 900 block of West State Street at 4:23 a.m. Sunday for a report of criminal trespass. The caller advised that they were having issues with past employees and wanted them trespassed. Officers contacted the individuals in question and advised them of the trespass notice.
–Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 1:25 p.m. Sunday regarding unwanted messages from a known woman on Facebook. The person advised they had blocked the woman but wanted the incident documented.
–Officers attempted a traffic stop on a motorcycle without its headlights off on Third Street at 5:02 a.m. Sunday. The vehicle failed to stop and fled northbound on North Ellsworth Avenue before turning onto East Ninth Street and taking a footbridge eastbound through Waterworth Memorial Park. Officers swept the area and attempted to locate the person but were unable. Officers will be investigating further, and charges will be filed accordingly.
–Officers responded to the 100 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 11:01 p.m. Saturday for a reported reckless operator that was allegedly speeding and crossing over marked lanes. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and found the driver had no signs of impairment and was driving quickly for a medical emergency involving another person. Officers advised them to drive safely despite the circumstances,.
— Officers on patrol in the 100 block of West State Street at 3:10 p.m. Thursday observed a driver commit a traffic violation. Officers conducted a traffic stop and a K-9 officer indicated the odor of narcotics, although no contraband was found. The driver was given a written warning for the traffic violation.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 12:23 p.m. Thursday to assist the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force with taking a person into custody for engaging in prostitution. The person was taken into custody and officers seized $$120 in cash as evidence.
–Officers responded to the area of North Union Avenue and East State Street at 7:32 a.m. Thursday in reference to a loose dog that was preventing a pedestrian from walking on a sidewalk. An officer and passing motorist distracted the dog so the pedestrian could continue on their way, but the officer was unable to coax the dog into the cruiser before it ran away. The dog’s caretaker had reported the dog had jumped the fence in the 1200 block of East Pershing Street earlier in the morning, so officers were able to contact the owner to collect the dog. The caretaker was given a warning for dog at large and advised to make adjustments at the home to prevent the dog from getting loose.
— Officers responded to the 1200 block of Cedar Ridge Drive at 7:08 a.m. Thursday in reference to a dispute between roommates and found one of them moving out. Officers said they could not stand by while items were removed from the residence, but advised the individuals to call police if any more disputes happen.
— Brandon L. Phillips, Salem Alliance Road, Salem, was arrested on an active warrant out of Columbiana County for a probation violation after officers on patrol in the 600 block of East Third Street at 11:16 p.m. Wednesday saw him walking with another person acting suspicious.
— An officer responded to the 200 block of Continental Drive at 4:09 p.m. Thursday where a resident reported $108 was missing from atop their night stand.
Perry Township
–Officers responded with the fire department to the 1000 block of Jones Drive at 4:06 a.m. Monday for a medical call. Officers and the fire department assisted EMT until no longer needed.
–Officers responded to the 900 block of Newgarden Avenue at 9:17 p.m. Sunday for a report of a man threatening to harm himself by walking on the railroad tracks. The man was located inthe Salem Police Department’s Jurisdiction and officers stood by until they were transported.
–Officers responded to the 400 block of East Pidgeon Road at 2:57 p.m. Sunday for a report of a vehicle blocking the roadway. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle.
–Officers responded to the 1200 block of West Perry Street at 8:03 p.m. Saturday to assist the fire department with a medical call. Officers stood by until they were no longer needed.
–Officers responded to the 600 block of West Pigeon Road at 7:55 p.m. Saturday for a reported 911 hang up call. No contact could be made at the residence.
–Officers responded to the 800 block of Cunningham Road at 6:51 p.m. Saturday for a reported horse in the roadway. Officers were able to secure the horse and the owner was notified.
–Officers responded to the 900 block of Prospect Street at 5:12 p.m. Saturday for a wellness check. The man in question was transported to Alliance by EMT.
–Officers responded to the 700 block of West State Street at 3:44 p.m. Saturday to assist the Salem Police Department with a dispute involving a man who brandished a firearm before fleeing. Officers stood by until they were no longer needed.
–Officers responded to the 100 block of Plymouth Place at 8:41 a.m. Saturday for a reported 911 hang-up call. Officers spoke with a man who advised he called 911 because he thought his girlfriend was having a seizure and officers requested first responders be dispatched. The girlfriend refused to be transported to the hospital.
–Officers responded to the 1700 block of Depot Road at 12:58 p.m. Friday for a reported suspicious person. Several residents in the area have previously complained of a man with a known history of mental illness coming to their residence and leaving items including several books with handwritten notes on and in them. The man had placed a Marilyn Monroe photo book near the entrance of a residence, and officers informed him that the residence in question had now been added to a list of properties in the area he is not permitted on. the man advised that he understood and will not go over there again.
–Vanessa Sawman, 21, Salem, was cited for a marked lines violation after her eastbound vehicle on West State Street struck the side of a vehicle driven by Timothy McAllister, 65, Lisbon, while attempting to change lanes at 2:48 p.m. Thursday No injuries were reported.
–Officers responded to the 1700 block of Ansley Way at 10 a.m. Thursday for a reported missing person. The caller advised that their coworker had left their bed and breakfast at about 5 p.m. the day prior and never returned. It was eventually determined that the coworker had been arrested and was currently incarcerated at the Summit County Jail on charges of importuning and unlawful sexual contact with a minor.
–Officers responded to the 1200 block of East Pidgeon Road at 4:31 p.m. Oct. 1 for a reported dispute. When officers arrived, the involved parties were already separated and advised that they had been in a vehicle together when a verbal altercation turned physical. Neither party had injuries requiring medical attention and both advised they just wanted to go their separate ways and not pursue charges.
–Officers responded to the 1200 block of Stewart Road at 9:05 p.m. Sept. 30 for a report of fraud. The caller advised that she and her husband had noticed a large amount of money taken from their bank account and a check made out to an unknown person for $4,982. The caller advised that they needed a report for their bank.
–Officers responded to the 1800 block of state Route 344 at 12:25 p.m. Sept. 30 for a report of a suspicious person seen pacing in the caller’s yard on their security camera. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the person.
–Officers responded to the 400 block of Benton Road at 2:32 p.m. Sept. 29 for a medical call. Officers stood by until no longer needed.
Sheriff Reports
–Deputies responded to a noise complaint reported at 12:09 a.m. Tuesday in the 11000 block of state Route 644, Hanover Township. The area was checked and deputies didn’t hear any of the reported noise.
— Deputies were dispatched at 11:53 p.m. Monday to an address on state Route 154, Elkrun Township due to some social media posts on a person’s pages. Deputies spoke with the person and their spouse at the home and explained the reason for the visit and reviewed the person’s social media with their permission. It was advised the person has a doctor’s appointment and will stay off of social media.
— A deputy at 4:42 p.m. Monday returned a call regarding lost property.
— A man on state Route 165, Unity Township reported at 9 p.m. Saturday that a vehicle pulled into his driveway and multiple people were screaming. While deputies were en route, he called back and said his roommate and another man were arguing with the driver. Deputies arrived and spoke with the driver, who was leaving, and all parties involved and learned the disagreement had been worked out.
— A deputy responded at 5:42 p.m. Oct. 1 to the Travelers Inn, state Route 45, Lisbon regarding suicidal threats. The person advised they were not suicidal and the deputy found the person in good health. Later in the day, the deputy responded again and the person had taken pills. EMS was notified, responded and took the person to the hospital.
— A civil matter was reported at 6:50 p.m. Sept. 30 on Hazel Run Road, Washington Township. Both parties came to an agreement.
Salem
–Officers on patrol in the area of Rose Avenue and East Fourth Street at 2:34 a.m. Wednesday for a reported suspicious vehicle. Officers spoke with the occupants, an 18-year-old who advised they were waiting for a friend to come out of a nearby residence, and two juveniles who were subsequently taken into custody for a curfew violation and transported to the police department. Their parents were contacted and picked them up.
–Officers responded to the 900 block of Prospect Street at 2:22 a.m. Wednesday to check a residence for potential squatters. It was reported by a prior shift that someone had possibly been entering the vacant home and sleeping there through the night on multiple nights. Officers checked the exterior of the residence and found it to be secure.
–Officers responded to the 100 block of West Pershing Street at 1:24 a.m. Wednesday for a reported suspicious person. The caller advised that an unknown person was on their front porch. Officers spoke with the person who advised that they were visiting a neighbor and had just stepped onto the porch out of the rain to put her hoodie on.
–Officers responded to the 400 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 12:51 a.m. Wednesday for a wellness check. Officers spoke with the woman in question who advised that they were okay.
–Jennifer Coletta, 49, Salem, was cited for assured clear distance ahead after her northbound vehicle on South Lincoln Avenue struck the rear of a vehicle driven by Joshue Mighell, 32, Salem, at 8:47 p.m. Tuesday. No injuries were reported.
–Officers responded to the 1000 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 8:40 p.m. Tuesday for a warrant check. Officers spoke with a resident who advised the wanted person did not live there.
–Officers responded to the 1100 block of East Third Street at 8:32 p.m. Tuesday for a warrant check. Officers spoke with a resident who advised that the person in question was at a rehab facility in Columbus.
–Officers responded to the 1300 block of Robin Avenue at 6:47 p.m. Tuesday for a civil matter. Officers stood by until they were no longer needed.
–Officers responded to the area of West Pershing Street at 1:24 p.m. Tuesday observed a person slumped forward in a parked vehicle. Officers spoke with the person who confirmed that he was fine and said that they were train watching and had taken a brief nap while waiting for the next train to pass through.
–The School Resource Officer was advised of an issue with a student at 1:23 p.m. Tuesday. The issue was investigated, and nothing was found.
–Officers responded to the 1300 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 9:24 a.m. Tuesday for a wellness check. The caller advised that the apartment next door had an alarm going off for almost an hour. Officers spoke with the neighbor and determined everything was fine.
–Officers responded to the 900 block of Prospect Street at 8:32 a.m. Tuesday for a report of criminal trespassing. The caller advised that a known man had been trespassing on their property and wanted them to be served with a trespass notice. The notice was signed and will be served once the person is located.
–Officers responded to the area of Dodge Drive at 7:24 a.m. Tuesday for a reported dispute between parents at a bus stop. Officers advised them not to talk to each other and to just wait for the bus to pick up their children and go home.
–Officers responded to the 200 block of South Howard Avenue at 1:21 a.m. Tuesday for a report of a possible prowler. The caller advised that a person had sent her a photo of her house while she was at work and that she wanted to make a report. Officers checked the area but did not locate anyone.
–Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 12:12 a.m. Tuesday for a reported medical call. Officers stood by until everything was deemed to be okay.
–Officers responded to the 400 block of Woodland Avenue at 11:20 p.m. Monday for a report of people arguing. Officers spoke with a woman who advised that they were just talking, and they were advised to keep the noise down.
–Officers responded to the 1300 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 11:08 p.m. Monday for a possibly suicidal person. Officers spoke with the person who advised that he was okay and did not want to harm himself.
–Officers responded to the 2400 block of East State Street at 9:07 p.m. Monday for a reported traffic offense. Officers located the vehicle and issued the driver, whose name was not listed, with a citation for the violation.
–Officers responded to the 1700 block of Quaker Lane at 8:26 p.m. Monday for a reported juvenile problem. The caller advised that a small child was walking near Sebo Stadium towards the roadway with no clothes on. Officers checked the area for several minutes but were unable to locate the juvenile.
–Officers responded to Waterworth Memorial Park at 6:42 p.m. Monday for a reported medical call. Officers stood by due to the caller having a history of being combative. Once everything was deemed okay, EMT transported them to the Salem Regional Medical Center.
