Sheriff’s Office

— A deputy at 8:36 p.m. Monday returned a call regarding an unruly juvenile on McGeehan Road, Wayne Township, advising the person how to proceed. The deputy also spoke with the juvenile and was advised both parties would be civil.

— Deputies were dispatched at 8:10 p.m. Saturday to Unity Township at a Hawkins Road property for a protection order violation. The caller said a man was on the property and appeared intoxicated and the caller had a protection order against him. He allegedly sat in the protected person’s vehicle and pounded on the garage door entering the house and back door. Deputies found him inside the garage and took him into custody. In Columbiana County Municipal Court, a preliminary hearing was set Dec. 29 for Dorian T. Lowrey, 50, Enon Valley, Pa., charged with violating a protection order, a fifth-degree felony.

— An alarm was reported at 8:11 p.m. Friday at JP Plumbing, state Route 45, Center Township. A deputy checked the property and found everything locked and secured from ground level.

— A man on Elk Avenue, Center Township reported at 5:37 p.m. Friday that his two dogs got loose and an unknown neighbor was yelling that they’ll shoot the dogs if they come onto their property. Deputies checked the area, but were unable to locate the neighbor who was yelling.

— Deputies were dispatched at 3:40 p.m. Friday to Apples Way Circle, Fairfield Township, for a person who needed transported to the hospital, but may become aggressive when an ambulance arrives. Upon arrival, the person was fine and Leetonia EMS transported the person to a hospital in Mahoning County.

— A domestic dispute was reported at 6:53 p.m. Dec. 17 on Old Monroeville Road, Salineville. Deputies spoke with both people involved and were advised it was regarding some medical issues. Nothing was physical. One person went to a hospital willingly due to mental health issues.

Salem

— Officers responded to the 2200 block of Southeast Boulevard at 11:50 a.m. Monday for a reported juvenile problem. The caller advised that their nephew had left the residence without permission. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the juvenile. The juvenile was entered into LEADS.

— Officers responded to the 2500 block of Lexington Avenue at 11:27 a.m. Monday for a wellness check. The caller advised that one of their employees had not been heard from in more than a week. Officers spoke with the person in question’s girlfriend who advised that they were out of town.

— Officers responded to the 600 block of Cedar Street at 10:42 a.m. Monday for a reported criminal trespass report. The caller advised that someone had come to their house, opened the door, and stepped inside. Officers obtained a written statement from a witness, and a trespass notice was completed. Officers advised the person in question that they were trespassed from the property and that they may face criminal charges.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 9:01 a.m. Monday regarding a domestic dispute that occurred several days ago. All information was collected, and the caller was advised of their options.

— Officers responded to the 1300 block of East State Street at 5:44 a.m. Monday for a wellness check. Officers spoke with the residents and found the person in question to be fine.

— Officers responded to the area of Franklin Avenue and Ohio Avenue at 4:38 a.m. Monday for a reported water main break. Officers located the break and stood by until the water department arrived.

–Officers responded to the 500 block of Columbia Street at 8:34 p.m. Saturday for a reported warrant check. Officers spoke with the person in question, Rachel Garnes, 47, Salem, who had an active warrant out of the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office. Officers took her into custody and transported her to the Columbiana County Jail.

–Officers responded to the 600 block of East State Street at 6:51 p.m. Saturday for a reported medical call. Officers stood by until no longer needed and the woman was transported to the Salem Regional Medical Center by the fire department.

–Officers responded to a business in the 2800 block of East State Street at 5:44 p.m. Saturday for a reported shoplifter. Employees advised that a woman, Emma Weyand, 45, East Liverpool, had taken items without paying, and that when an employee attempted to stop Weyand she used the shopping cart to push the employee out of the way and injured the employee’s leg. Officers located the Weyand in the parking lot with the cart full of merchandise and she admitted to taking the items without paying. Weyand was taken into custody, and a glass pipe with burnt residue was located in her possession. Officers seized the pipe and transported Weyand to the Columbiana County Jail charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, and second-degree felony robbery.

–Officers responded to the 100 block of Jennings Avenue at 7:39 p.m. Saturday to locate a woman with an outstanding warrant out of the Columbiana County Sherriff’s Office. Officers spoke with the woman, Rachel Hendricks, 25, Salem, and she was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Columbiana County Jail.

–Officers responded to the area of North Cunningham Road and Bentley Drive at 12:26 p.m. Saturday for a report of an individual in a parked vehicle that appeared to be slumped over the steering wheel. Officers observed the individual was alert and appeared to be fine, and they advised that they were just looking down at their cell phone. They also advised that they were waiting for a family member to finish an appointment at a nearby location and went on their way.

–Officers responded to the 900 block of East Fifth Street at 12:21 p.m. Saturday for a reported civil matter. The caller advised that his soon-to-be ex-wife left the house in a vehicle that is registered in his name. The caller advised that due to the two still being married that she had not committed a crime by taking the vehicle. The caller still wanted a report on file, and officers provided them with a report number.

–Officers on patrol in the 1000 block of West State Street at 11:52 p.m. Friday conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for committing a marked lane violation. There was an odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle and officers conducted sobriety tests, taking the driver Cora Donovan, 24, Barberton, into custody charged with OVI and transported them to the police department for additional testing and to wait for a valid driver to pick them up.

–Officers responded to the 1900 block of East State Street at 2:38 p.m. Friday for a reported suspicious person. The caller advised a man was seen carrying a rifle in the area. Further investigation found that the man was a prison guard who observes inmates for a work program. Officers found that there were no threats.

–Officers responded to the 2300 block of East State Street at 2:16 p.m. Friday for a reported suspicious person. The caller advised that a man had contacted the store and asked about a customer and how payments are processed and at some point during the call had gotten upset and said they were coming to the store. Officers spoke with the man by phone, who advised that it was a misunderstanding and that their card had been used to make a payment for a friend and had been getting charged monthly unbeknownst to the business. He was advised that the incident would be civil in nature, and he advised that he would go to the police department to file his own report.

–Officers responded to the 1900 block of East State Street at 1:30 p.m. Friday to place a man into custody for an incident that occurred earlier in the day. Once the man was medically cleared, he was transported to the Columbiana County Jail.

–The School Resource Officer was advised of an issue with a student at 1:10 p.m. Friday for a reported issue with a student. The school administration advised that a student was having some mental health issues, and the mother requested they be transported to Akron Children’s Boardman. The student was transported by EMT.

–Officers responded to the 400 block of West Fourth Street at 11:52 a.m. Friday for a reported dispute. The caller advised that their live-in-boyfriend’s daughter entered the home without permission and was going through property. When officers arrived, they found that the daughter had permission to be at the residence and all parties involved were advised to be civil while in the same household.

–Officers responded to the 1200 block of Southeast Boulevard at 10:14 a.m. Friday for a reported suspicious object. The caller advised that they had just opened a new jar of peanut butter, and it had appeared to be tampered with. Officers observed the peanut butter, and it appeared normal.

–Officers responded to the 400 block of Broadway Avenue at 8:23 a.m. Friday for a reported suspicious person. The caller advised that there was an unknown man jumping in front of oncoming traffic and yelling. They also advised that the person was messing with the neighbor’s trash can. The person refused to comply with officers, walked away and picked up an umbrella, and then started to walk towards officers. They dropped the umbrella but continued to refuse to comply and were tased and transported to the Salem Regional Medical Center for medical attention. Charges are pending.

–Officers responded to the 900 block of East Fifth Street at 6:08 a.m. Friday for a report of multiple unknown people walking around the residence. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate any of the people. The caller was advised to call back if they return.

Leetonia

— Officers responded to a disabled vehicle at 6:42 p.m. Dec. 21 in the 300 block of Columbiana. The driver had run out of gas. After acquiring assistance with the gas from someone that he was meeting in Leetonia, the subject headed back to Akron.

East Palestine

— A suspicious person was reported at 8:30 p.m. Dec. 22 in the West Martin Street. Responding police are unable to locate anyone.

— A parking complaint was reported at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 21 in the first block of West Main Street. The driver relocated the vehicle.

— An officer investigated a complaint regarding a dog who had been left outside for an extended period of time at 5:26 a.m. Dec. 21 in the first block of North Liberty Street. After making contact with the dog owner, it was brought back inside.

— A man reported at 11:43 p.m. Dec. 19 almost being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of James and East Clark Street while walking to work. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle.

— Police assisted the Ohio Highway Patrol with traffic control at a crash on state Route 170 south of the village limits at 3:13 p.m. Dec. 19.

— An officer responded at 5:47 a.m. Dec. 15 to a domestic dispute in the 100 block of Alice Street. No arrests were made.

— Shawna Lewis, no address listed, was arrested at 4:29 a.m. Dec. 19 on a charge of domestic violence at a West Martin Street residence.
