Sheriff’s Office

— A deputy at 3:13 p.m. Thursday attempted to call a person regarding a reported sex offense, but both times the deputy called, the number was advised as disconnected. The address on the report was Winona Road, Butler Township.

— Deputies responded at 10:44 p.m. Wednesday for a shooting complaint on Bayard Road, West Township, with no details as to what happened on the report. Deputies spoke to both parties involved and advised them how to proceed. Deputies were then called back to the same address for an alleged assault. David Scott Lyon, 64, Bayard Road, Minerva, was charged with assault and transported to the county jail. He appeared for video arraignment in Columbiana County Municipal Court on Friday, with a pretrial set for Jan. 7.

— A deputy hit a deer while leaving the sheriff’s office on County Home Road, Lisbon at 2:33 a.m. Wednesday.

— A man on Hartley Road, Knox Township reported at 6:05 p.m. Tuesday that his ex-wife, who resides in Washingtonville, has not let him see or have contact with his two sons since Dec. 1 and isn’t following the court order. He was advised to contact an attorney.

— A deputy was dispatched at 5:10 p.m. Tuesday to Pinewood Drive, New Waterford for a medical call. Upon arrival, EMS advised the situation was under control.

— Deputies responded at 7:30 p.m. Monday to Sherwood Road, Yellow Creek Township regarding a burglary and while en route were told a person had an arrest warrent. The report said deputies made contact with the person and placed him under arrest, transporting him to jail. The report did not include the name or any information regarding the person arrested, but a sheriff’s office representative said the person was Mark Foden, 55, last known address Wellsville, who was taken into custody on a warrant for failure to appear for nonsupport.

— A stolen vehicle was reported at 12:24 p.m. Monday on McCracken Road, Salem Township.

— Debris was reported in the road in the area of Cameron Road near state Route 45, Madison Township at 3:19 p.m. Dec. 28. A deputy checked the area and found the debris posed no hazard.

— Noise was reported at 1:17 a.m. Dec. 27 on Grant Street, Center Township, with deputies asking the person to keep the noise down and they agreed to do so.

— Deputies at 12:19 a.m. Dec. 27 checked the area of Cream Ridge Road, Elkrun Township regarding a shooting complaint, checking the immediate and surrounding areas, but finding nothing.

— A deputy at 10:51 p.m. Dec. 25 returned a call regarding a noise complaint on Wells Hollow Road, Yellow Creek Township, telling the caller how to proceed.

— A welfare check was requested on Crestview Road, Fairfield Township at 7:48 p.m. Dec. 25. A deputy made contact with the person in question and found him to have some memory loss. EMS checked the person and cleared him. A relative was reached and was on the way.

— Menacing was reported at 5:26 p.m Dec. 25 on Water Street, Salineville.

Salem

— Officers responded to the 500 block of Aetna Street at 11:54 p.m. Thursday for a reported dispute. The caller advised that two women at the home were arguing and being loud while intoxicated. When officers arrived, the woman causing the disturbance calmed down and agreed to gather her belongings and stay with a friend to get some sleep. The women left after a ride arrived to pick them up.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 7:08 p.m. Thursday who had rescued a dog that was thrown from a vehicle and abandoned approximately 40 minutes prior. The vehicle was described as a gray sedan which traveled westbound after abandoning the dog.

— Officers responded to the 800 block of East School Street at 6:09 p.m. Thursday to check the area for a report of possible shots fired. Officers checked the area and surrounding camera but did not locate anything unusual.

— Officers responded to the 800 block of East Third Street at 3:40 p.m. Thursday for a report of suspicious activity. The caller advised that they believed someone unknown to them had entered their apartment while they were not home. Officers advised the caller of their options for dealing with the situation.

— Officers responded to the 1100 block of East State Street and Woodland Avenue at 12:18 p.m. Thursday for a report of lines down. Officers located what appeared to be telephone lines down, but no obstructing traffic and AT&T was contacted and advised they would be out to check on them as soon as possible.

— Officers responded to the 2800 block of East State Street at 11:04 a.m. Thursday for a reported animal complaint. Officers were advised of a canine in a vehicle and located the owner of the vehicle, advising them of the complaint.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 9:31 a.m. Thursday who advised that the mother of his child did not pick him up per the court order. Officers advised the caller of the options for dealing with the situation.

— Officers responded to the area of North Howard Avenue and West Seventh Street at 12:21 a.m. Thursday for a report of a person laying in the roadway. Officers spoke with all parties involved and found that it was a juvenile experiencing mental health issues. First responders were contacted, and the juvenile was transported for further evaluation.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 11:17 p.m. Wednesday for a report about questions regarding a protection order and a person being in a business with them that evening. Officers advised them of their options for the night.

— Officers responded to the area of East State Street at 10:56 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a possibly intoxicated driver. The caller advised an intoxicated man left their home and was headed toward Newgarden Avenue. Officers were in the area within a minute of the call but were unable to locate any vehicles fitting the description given.

— Officers heard a loud explosion in the area of Southeast Boulevard at 9:56 p.m. Wednesday. Officers checked the area but did not find the source.

— Officers responded to a business in the 500 block of East Pershing Street at 7:01 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a person to be removed that had already been removed from another business earlier in the evening. Officers spoke with the person, Wayne Ayers, Leetonia, who refused to leave the bed they were laying in “so they were assisted up an into a cruiser” and were arrested for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest and transported to the Columbiana County Jail.

— Officers responded to a business in the 200 block of Cunningham Road at 5:41 p.m. Wednesday for a reported person to be removed. The caller advised that a person had begun arguing about the price of a room and yelling at her and had begun calling her vulgar names. Officers spoke with the person in question who denied doing so, but the management wanted him to be removed from the property, and his money was refunded. Due to the snowy weather officers gave him a ride to another hotel.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 12:03 p.m. Wednesday regarding a possible forgery. They advised that work had been done on their home and an itemized list of the work completed had been sent to the bank and that the signature on the back endorsing that the work had been completed was not hers. Officers advised they would investigate the matter.

— Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 12:01 p.m. Wednesday regarding a noise complaint. They advised that people are at a residence in the 200 block of North Howard Avenue causing a disturbance at all hours of the day and night. Officers requested the person call when the issues are occurring in the future.

— Officers responded to the 1800 block of East State Street at 11:47 a.m. Wednesday for a report of harassment. The caller advised that a customer was causing issues and wanted them to be trespassed. Officers responded to the person’s residence but were unable to speak with them but later advised them that they had been trespassed from the business by phone.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of East State Street at 7:47 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a possibly intoxicated person. Officers spoke with the person, Clemente Perez, 20, Salem, observing open alcohol containers in plain view within their vehicle, and issued a citation for open container. Officers also found that Perez was under the legal drinking age, and he was taken into custody for underage consumption and transported to the Columbiana County Jail.

— Officers responded to the 600 block of Franklin Avenue at 6:12 a.m. Wednesday for a reported suspicious noise. The caller advised that there was an unknown noise coming from their basement, and they were unsure if it was a person or an animal. Officers checked the basement and located a cat.

— Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 2:44 a.m. Wednesday for a wellness check on a person who had allegedly been asking people for money and a ride. Officers gave them a courtesy transport home.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of Georgetown Road at 12 a.m. Wednesday to assist Perry Township officers with a suspicious vehicle. The caller advised that a vehicle was parked behind her residence in the parking lot of a church. Officers stood by until they were no longer needed.

— Officers responded to the 900 block of East Third Street at 6:14 p.m. Tuesday for a reported domestic in progress. The caller advised that the couple next door to them were fighting. Officers spoke with both the male and female half who advised that the argument was verbal only and all parties were okay.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of East Pershing Street at 5:17 p.m. Tuesday for a wellness check on a man standing outside a business and not wearing a coat. Officers spoke with the man, who advised he was fine and was just waiting for an Uber to arrive. The man’s ride arrived while officers were speaking with him.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of East Fourth Street at 3:40 p.m. Tuesday for a reported woman experiencing a mental health crisis, with the possibility of a firearm being involved. Officers located the woman in crisis and firearm and the fire department and EMT responded and transported the woman to an appropriate medical facility for further evaluation. Officers obtained and transported the firearm to the police department for safekeeping.
