1954-2026
SALEM — James (“Moose”) Damico, passed away suddenly on Saturday, March 28, 2026. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Jim was born on June 19, 1954, in Struthers, Ohio, and graduated from Struthers High School in 1972. He went on to attend Youngstown State University. Over the years, he lived in both Ohio and North Carolina, and for the past 20+ years, called Salem, Ohio, his home.
Jim was a much-cherished husband, stepfather, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Though reserved, Jim could become the life of the party and loved to laugh, often lighting up the dance floor. He enjoyed walking his beloved dog, Petey; watching sports and cheering on the Browns, Indians, Cavs, and Buckeyes; bowling; and backyard sports. He loved music — especially the Beach Boys and the Beatles — classic TV (particularly A Christmas Story), and spending time with friends and family. He also enjoyed traveling with Judy and visiting family across the country.
Jim had a long professional career, mainly working in sales for drilling companies, and was known for his strong work ethic. In retirement, Jim continued to stay active and worked at East of Chicago, where he enjoyed the banter and friendship of his co-workers.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Damico, whom he married on Dec. 17, 1984, and with whom he shared 41 years of marriage, along with his stepchildren: Rick (Glenda) Ross of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Kelly (Donnie) Cochran of Austintown; Christine Ross (Scott Akin) of Santa Fe, N.M.; and Ronnie (Tiffani) Ross of Mooresville, N.C.; his grandchildren, Will, Melissa, Jonah, Ben, Sophia, and Izzy Ross; Finn and Jude Akin; and Trip Russell and Angie Healey; his sister, Joanne Damico Kalbasky of Struthers; his brother, Nick (Barbara) Damico of Columbus; his nieces, Nicole (David) Powell of Columbus and Lisa (Andrew) Saxon of Girard; his nephews, Gary (Anissa) Kalbasky of Boardman and Jimmy (Morgan) Damico of Hilton Head, S.C.; along with his great-grandchildren, extended family, and many close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lucy (Quattro) Damico, and his brother-in-law, Gary Kalbasky.
Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Monday, April 6, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Clemente Funeral Home at 700 Fifth St. in Struthers. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, followed by a bereavement luncheon at Christ Our Savior/St. Nicholas Church in Struthers.
