Vote to protect all of your future votes

To the editor: In 2022, the US Supreme Court overturned Roe vs. Wade, the landmark piece of legislation that made access to abortion a federal right in the United States. The reversal of Roe vs. Wade has given states the authority to set their own reproductive health policies, meaning that these laws now vary widely; women in some states will have access to personally chosen reproductive health care and those in others will not. The reversal also set off intense battles between those who want to implement restrictions and those who want to preserve access to safe health care. That is ...

Encourages ‘NO’ votes for Issue 1

To the editor: I am reaching out to ask all Ohio voters to cast a resounding “NO” vote on Issue 1 when it comes up for consideration on August 8th 2023. This proposed measure carries significant implications for the well-being of working individuals and members of labor unions across our state. Should Issue 1 be approved, it would create an opportunity for pro-corporate legislators to exploit the 60 percent vote requirement, as they have attempted to do in the past and push forward their agenda of establishing Ohio as a “right to work” state. This harmful move would ...

Suggests EP residents consider local law firm

To the editor: Staying abreast of the recent railroad tragedy and knowing some of the citizens affected in East Palestine, I recently read in “The Review” about the legal clinic held by the River Valley Organizing, Timothea Deeter, to assist residents. It was rightfully stated, “Residents have been leery of legal talks as law firms descended on East Palestine and bombarded social media with posts pitching their services.” It continued, “Residents didn’t know who was trustworthy.” The article closed with Deeter stating, “It’s up to each resident to decide what ...

Still waiting for an answer

To the editor: I have somewhat gotten a more “peaceful feeling” since our Congress and “the man in the White House,” through “many tough negotiations,” averted a national debt ceiling crisis. For example, delay in Social Security, to which it is said that almost 60 percent of those retired is their only source of income; a passing out of IOUs to those in the military; and to this and that, because our country runs on credit. My limited math tells me this is a formula for disaster for sure. While this “agreement” was being negotiated, I called our Congressman Bill ...

County GOP chairman urges ‘yes’ vote on Issue 1

Dear Editor: I am urging county voters to vote “yes” on Issue One in the upcoming special election of August 8th (early voting beginning July 11th) if only to protect Ohio’s state constitution from out of state special interests like that of leftist billionaire George Soros. By voting “yes” in Issue One, all 88 Ohio counties will have to participate in petition signature submittals for constitutional ballot amendments. This ensures that not just the big urban areas of the state impose such ballot amendments upon us without all of Ohio’s 88 counties knowing about it and ...

A day of joy for St. Paul parishioners

To the editor: This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24 That day was celebrated at St. Paul Catholic Church on Sunday afternoon, June 18, at a mass of thanksgiving. To give glory and praise to God. For on this day one of our own celebrated his first mass as a priest: Frederick Schlueter. Father Frederick Schlueter was ordained a priest on June 17 at St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown by Bishop Bonnar. We praise God for all St. Paul’s parishioners who worked so hard to make this event amazing. The orchestra and all the music was beautiful ...
