Ban enacted on private property owners is restrictive

To the editor: At the recent public hearing held by the Columbiana County Commissioners regarding a ban on construction of large solar facilities and large wind farms in the unincorporated parts of seven townships in the county, Commissioner Weigle brought up my longtime support of the work of Western Reserve Land Conservancy. He stated that 898 acres of land in the county is controlled by the Conservancy and that solar panels cannot be placed on that land. That statement is very true. Most of those parcels of land have a conservation easement on them, and for good reason. They are in ...

Encourages senior citizens to support school levy

To the editor: As a senior citizen living in Salem for over 50 years, I can fully appreciate the time my children spent in Salem City Schools. Today, they are successful citizens in their own communities, bringing with them many talents and successes they were given and taught while attending school here in our community. Today, I wish to speak to the seniors living in Salem who have a chance to continue to offer this opportunity to others who will take our places in our community. We give of ourselves and continue to be rewarded by those many individuals who follow in our own ...

Save Our Schools: Reilly and Buckeye — Vote No on May 2nd

To the editor: To the citizens of Salem and Perry Township, due to time restraints when speaking at the school board meeting in March, I was unable to complete my comments concerning the future of Reilly and Buckeye elementary schools, and would like to further explain why I am voting No on the deciding/final vote on May 2nd for the new elementary complex/school levy. I hope the people of Salem realize that ONLY property owners will take he brunt of the tax increase that will affect them for the next 37 years. The final costs of any major building project are almost always much higher ...

Business owner supports school levy

To the editor: As an owner of one of Salem’s largest companies which designs and builds heavy machinery, I am writing to endorse the upcoming ballot measure to fund construction of a new school in Salem. I believe this levy is essential for attracting a much needed workforce, improving the growth and success of our community, and it will benefit not just our children but also our local economy. At Butech Bliss, we require highly educated and skilled employees who can be difficult to find and convince to come live in our town. We’ve recruited individuals from across the country and ...

More support for the Salem School Levy

To the editor: We are writing to strongly support the proposed levy for the new K-8 building in our district. We are the presidents of the National Honors Society and Key Club, similar organizations at Salem High School promoting leadership and service above self. Our groups are full of student leaders who serve our community. We will not get the chance to use this new K-8 building ourselves, but we want to leave our school and our city better than what we experienced. What better way is there to serve our community than building a new school? We went to Buckeye and Reilly. We are ...

Expressing support for Salem Schools

To the editor: We write today to voice our immense support for the City of Salem, Salem City Schools, and the proposed new K-8 building. We are proud Quakers: alumni, parents, educators, business owners, and community servants. We have worked closely with the great leaders from across our city, parents of every school age, recent and remote graduates, current students, teachers, coaches, boosters, the school board, the school and city administration, and many service organizations locally. Although our school buildings served us well over the past decades, the consensus is clear: ...
