In support of the Columbiana County Park District

To the editor: Did you know the Columbiana County Park District owns and operates Scenic Vista Park in Center township, Hellbender Park in Madison township and 12 miles of the Little Beaver Creek Greenway Trail? All of this is done with three part-time employees and volunteers and a five-member Park Board, all of whom are volunteers.  Did you know that the park district’s only guaranteed revenue is $15,000 from Local Government Funds distributed through the County Commissioners’ Office? The park district has been operating for over 10 years on the one-time receipts from timber ...

A sense of community makes a difference

To the editor: Dear West Branch and Crestview Communities: We are extremely grateful for all your support over the last few months. Our daughter Maria got extremely sick in February. We did not know if she would live. Then we worried if she would regain use of her limbs. However with the power of two dedicated spiritual communities, our daughter is now exceeding expectations. We have had challenges, but both communities kept us motivated and grounded during a difficult time. We have been in the hospital for over 4-and-a-half months and now finally home. We have had meals, gift ...

Need to be working together for the people

To the editor: I would like to ask why it is when someone writes a letter to the editor or writes a political article, they blame the Republicans or the Democrats? The whole purpose of a two-party system as created by our forefathers is (one was) one side presents its ideas and the other side presents its ideas and together they come up with an amicable solution for the people. We need someone with ...

Salem Hunting Club event a big success

To the editor: Thank you to everyone who helped make the Salem Hunting Club’s 19th annual Lowell Iden Memorial Breakfast and Trap Shoot a big success. All proceeds went to the Lowell Iden-Larry Iler Scholarship Fund. Mr. Iden was president of the club for 10 years. He was an avid trap shooter and belonged to many shooting organizations. One of Lowell’s joys was helping girls and boys become more involved in shooting sports and the outdoors. The following merchants and individuals donated over 50 baskets for our raffle: Runzo’s Outdoor Sports, Salem Auto Zone, State Street ...

Some words for columnist Witcover

To the editor: Jules Witcover is back on your editorial page writing about how good Biden is and how bad Trump was and is. I wonder what world he lives in! Yesterday, the Dow Jones average took a hit, a big hit, thanks to President Biden’s policies which have produced nothing but economic failure for the vast number of legal American citizens. He states, with the generosity and freedom of a First Amendment opinion writer, totally irrational comments such as, “Trump and his enablers in the Republican Party are now clearly imperiling U.S. National security.” As well as, “Trump ...
