Expresses support for both parks levies

To the editor: As former Mayor of Salem, I would like to continue to express my support for the Columbiana County Park District Levy, as well as, the Salem Parks Renewal Levy, which both will appear on the November 8th ballot. The voters of Salem have long shown their support for city parks levies because, I believe, they enjoy a well-maintained parks system that provides much needed recreation close to home and they understand how those parks can be an economic development driver. To the editor: Although I have only been on the Columbiana Park Board for several months, I have long been aware of the benefits of the Little Beaver Creek Greenway Trail, Scenic Vista Park and Hellbender Park in Madison Township. In fact, I have been riding the Greenway Trail since 2000 as well as other dedicated bike trails in the eastern United States. Congressional map goes to the U.S. Supreme Court

Rather than draw a new congressional map, Republican state legislative leaders filed an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court contending the one they approved is constitutional. Along political partisan lines, the Ohio Redistricting Commission on March 2 approved a congressional map that gives Republicans significant advantage in districts that lean right. A previous map, approved by the Republican-controlled state Legislature, was rejected as unconstitutional Jan. 14 by the Ohio Supreme Court over gerrymandering issues. Why should strained families back WB Schools Levy?

To the editor: Once again, taxpayers in the West Branch School District are being asked to support a levy that will add additional taxes to our already strained family budgets.  Inflation has impacted all of us.  Inflation is often referred to as the “Hidden Tax” leaving us poorer by reducing the purchasing power of the dollar and decreasing the value of our savings.  I find the insensitivity that is being shown by the West Branch administrators unconscionable.  This is not the time to ask the citizens of West Branch to pile on more taxes as we struggle to cope with profligate ...

To the editor: The County Park District Board of Commissioners has placed a .35 mill levy on the November 8th ballot. This is a new tax which is needed for the operation and maintenance of County Parks. It will cost the homeowner of a home valued at $100,000 approximately $12.25 per year. The County Park District was created by the County Commissioners in 1974. The District received its first property, Scenic Vista Park, in 1976.
