Branch, Salem bow out

ASHTABULA — Parma Heights Holy Name might have finished sixth in its seven-team North Coast Conference, but when you play in arguably the best volleyball conference in the state the odds are on your side.

Holy Name, seeded 11th, breezed past No. 10 seed West Branch 25-16, 25-18, 25-19 in a Div. IV district semifinal at Edgewood High School.

The Green Wave improved to 9-13 on the season and will play No. 3 seed Edgewood in the district final on Wednesday at Woodridge High School.

West Branch, which finished second in the Eastern Buckeye Conference, finished the season 14-10.

Edgewood 3, Salem 1

ASHTABULA — Salem’s volleyball team didn’t go without a fight in a 25-18-25-17, 23-25, 25-20 loss to No. 3 seed Ashtabula Edgewood on Monday in a Div. IV district semifinal.

The Quakers came in as the 23rd seed and finished the season 8-16.

Edgewood improved to 20-4 and will play No. 11 seed Parma Heights Holy Name in the district final on Wednesday at Woodridge.
