SALEM — Salem’s girls basketball team suffered its first loss of the season with a 47-40 defeat at the hands of Carrollton on Saturday.

Abby Knickerbocker had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Quakers, 5-1 and 2-1 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference. Carrollton is 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the EBC.

Karlie Sampson added eight points and four rebounds for the Quakers. Maddy Andres had nine points, five rebounds and four assists.

Carrollton won the jayvee game, 28-26 in overtime. Ava Lee had 12 points for the Quakers. Salem is at Marlington on Wednesday.

ALLIANCE — West Branch’s girls basketball team clocked a 76-14 win over Alliance on Saturday.

West Branch led 35-4 after the first quarter and 58-8 at the half.

Audrey Eaton led the way with 18 points. Madi Hoopes added 13 points. Iris Nezbeth chipped in nine points, while Tallie Muniz scored eight points.

West Branch (6-0 overall and 3-0 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference) will be at Carrollton on Wednesday.

Beaver Local 34

CALCUTTA — United’s girls basketball team sidestepped Beaver Local 45-34 on Saturday.

For the Eagles, Maelee Smith had 18 points, 10 rebounds and three steals. Bella Thompson had 14 points, five steals and six assists. Reagan Good added eight points and 10 rebounds.

United is 3-4.

For Beaver Local, Mercedes McCullough had 12 points. Mallory Miller added 10 points and Bella McLevey had six points.

Beaver Local won the jayvee game, 27-24. Lilly Wright had 10 points for the Beavers. Kyle Holmes and Isabella Thompson had seven points each for United.

Beaver Local is at Brooke today.

United hosts Lisbon today.
