Area bowlers short of state

LORAIN — No area bowlers advanced out of the Division II district tournament Friday at Rebman Lanes, but several girls will get a shot at it Saturday.

Crestview senior Brody Brubaker topped area boys by tying for 17th place with a 601 series, which was 38 pins shy of a state berth. He had games of 216-196-189.

United senior Josh Hawkins was 28th with a 575 series (214-205-156). He was 67th at the state tournament as a sophomore.

The top four teams and top four individuals not on a qualifiying team advance to the Division II state tournament Feb. 27 at H.P. Lanes in Columbus.

The Crestview boys were 11th out of 17 teams with 3,735 pins. The Rebels had 2,633 heading into the baker games.

The four state qualifying teams are Akron Coventry (4,212), Fairport Harding (4,136), Champion (4,101) and Mentor Lake Catholic (4,093).

Coventry junior Wade Allen was the individual champion with a 738 series (285-258-215). He was 15th at state last year.

The individual state qualifiers were Lake Center senior Tristan Roberts (667), Southington sophomore T.J. Williams (657), Wooster Triway junior Luke Carey (650) and Brooklyn senior Adam Cowper (639).

Backing Brubaker for Crestview were senior Peyton Mellott in 42nd with 542 series (172-198-172), senior Milton Scott in 60th with a 515 series (188-122-205), senior Christopher Johnson in 63rd with a 511 series (131-207-173) and junior Lucas Johnson in 81st with a 464 series (156-157-151).

There were 88 bowlers who rolled three-game series.

The field of 108 bowlers averaged 179.2 per game.

Area girls who qualified for the district tournament on Saturday are Crestview’s team and Wellsville juniors Makayla Landess and Madelyn Landess.
