East Palestine hosts USA watch party

EAST PALESTINE — A gold medal watch party to cheer on former East Palestine student and Team USA hockey player J.T. Miller will be held Sunday morning at the East Palestine High School auditorium. Doors will open at 7:30 a.m. with the USA-Canada hockey match in the Olympic final to start at 8:10 a.m. Fans are encouraged to wear red, white and blue and to bring signs. Miller attended East Palestine schools through his sophomore year until moving to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to join the United States National Team Development Program. Area bowlers short of state

LORAIN — No area bowlers advanced out of the Division II district tournament Friday at Rebman Lanes, but several girls will get a shot at it Saturday. Crestview senior Brody Brubaker topped area boys by tying for 17th place with a 601 series, which was 38 pins shy of a state berth. He had games of 216-196-189. United senior Josh Hawkins was 28th with a 575 series (214-205-156). He was 67th at the state tournament as a sophomore. From Staff Reports CLEVELAND — Salem senior Ryan Folger earned his third trip to the Div. II state swimming meet by earning an automatic berth in the 100-yard butterfly on Friday at the district meet at Cleveland State University. Folger shaved almost 4 seconds off his sectional time to finish third (50.51). The top three individuals and top two relay teams on Friday earned automatic bids to the Div.
