MINERVA — Peyton Colbert paced Salem’s girls basketball team with 15 points in a 41-22 win over Minerva on Wednesday in Eastern Buckeye Conference girls basketball action. Maddy Andres added 11 points for Salem (10-5, 4-3 in the EBC). Rachel Benedict had 10 points for Minerva, 2-13, 1-6. Salem won the jayvee portion, 24-11. Shae Burkhart had 13 points for the winners. MVAC will lose three schools The Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference is facing an uncertain future after several Portage County schools in the league are in the process of announcing their departure for a new league. Garrettsville Garfield, Ravenna Southeast and Waterloo are planning on joining the Greater Portage Conference along with Crestwood, Rootstown, Ravenna, Akron Springfield and Mogadore to start play in 2027-28.
