LISBON — Alicia Rogenski, the 30-year-old Wellsville area woman who pleaded guilty to the murder of Scottie Johnson, was sentenced on Monday morning to 15 years to life in prison.
“This is a senseless killing,” said Assistant County Prosecutor John Gamble in making his recommendation to the court. “It rightly deserves a life term of imprisonment.”
Prior to sentencing, Gamble talked briefly about the case, which involved Rogenski and her boyfriend, Terry Brown, shooting and killing Johnson, who was believed to have been selling drugs at the Hillcrest Road home of Brown and Rogenski.
“We want you to know and we want the public to know, we value life regardless of the identity of the victims, regardless of their station in life, regardless of what they do,” Gamble said in addressing Judge C. Ashley Pike.
A teary-eyed Rogenski read from a statement before she was sentenced.
“I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my life,” Rogenski said. “I’ve been in and out of jail. I’ve lost custody of my kids. I’ve robbed, cheated and lied.”
She went on to say everything she did was for her next drug fix and she never thought it would end with a murder charge. She added she is selfish for leaving her children and feels bad Johnson’s young daughter will grow up without her father.
“I’m so sincerely sorry for what happened,” Rogenski said. “I’m ready to serve my time. I know this may not be justice for the family because this does not bring him back, but I hope you and Scott’s family can one day find it in your hearts to forgive me.”
Johnson’s parents attended Monday’s hearing, but declined to make a statement before sentencing.
“Only the most depraved persons could have committed these heinous crimes,” Pike said prior to sentencing Rogenski. “The public needs to be protected from you.”
In October, Rogenski had pleaded guilty to murder and aggravated robbery in Johnson’s death in March of 2017. Johnson had been shot and in an apparent attempt to cover up the murder, Johnson’s finger tips and a tattoo were cut off. He had been left on a burn pile behind the home.
Rogenski’s sentencing hearing in January was canceled after her co-defendant, Brown, filed a motion to withdraw his own guilty plea the murder. She will be credited with 347 days served in the case. The 15 years to life sentence includes a three-year concurrent sentence for the aggravated robbery charge.
Brown, whose motion to withdraw his guilty plea was denied, is scheduled to be sentenced later this week.
A family member of Rogenski said after the hearing they believe everyone there was involved and responsible for what happened and they just hope she does OK where she is going.
Whether Rogenski serves 15 years or more in prison will be the decision of the state parole board down the road.
