United BOE presents open enrollment data

HANOVERTON – The United Local School District has significantly more students coming in than going out through open enrollment, according to information provided to the school board Wednesday.

Schools Superintendent Lance Hostetler presented the open enrollment data, showing 202 students are coming into the district while 79 are going out. The district has seen the most students coming in from Salem, with 70, followed by Southern Local’s 33 and West Branch’s 31. The district is losing the most students to West Branch, with 19, followed by 16 to Lisbon, 13 to Minerva and 12 to Salem.

In other business, the board granted athletic supplemental contracts for the 2022-2023 school year to Terry Leek for assistant varsity girls basketball, Scott Cope for freshman varsity girls basketball, Todd Sarchet for eighth-grade girls basketball, Luke Williams for seventh-grade girls basketball, Jordan Phillips for assistant varsity boys basketball, Tom Coffee for freshman boys basketball, Cody Dickens for eighth-grade boys basketball, Justin Mitchell for assistant varsity wrestling, Jake Kilroy for assistant varsity wrestling, Angela Benner for assistant winter cheerleading and Brenna Wood for junior high winter cheerleading.

The board also granted 2022-2023 supplemental contracts to Betty Whiteleather as advisor for Ruriteen Club, Student Council, Junior Class, Freshman Class, Sophomore Class and Community Outreach; Erica Noel as advisor for Senior Class; Noleen Moore as advisor for Key Club and Volunteers; Nome Baker as director for band and jazz band; Sonya Minard for assistant band director; Jason Minard for percussion band director; Nicole Price for majorette/flag advisor; Heather Connor for high school art advisor; Stacey Zines for yearbook advisor; Susan Laughlin for Community Education coordinator; Ann Cooper for head residential education mentor; Elaine Meals for Academic Challenge advisor; Lori Conser for high school choir advisor; Matt Fowler for TV studio advisor; Cindy Neiswanger for play advisor-spring musical; Shawn Hicklin for high school SAP coordinator; Beth McGaffick for elementary SAP coordinator; Kristi Urmson for FCCLA advisor; Katie Davidson for middle/high school PBIS coordinator; Katie Bibri for elementary PBIS coordinator; Jackie Mercer for ASL Club; and Jake Kilroy for National Honor Society.

Additionally, the board approved Javin Shafer as a student sound technician on an as needed basis at $10 per hour and Luke Williams as a volunteer tennis coach for the girls sectional tournament.

Also at the meeting, the board accepted donations of $1,000 from Ellyson Inc. for Football FNDR, $100 from Edna Anderson for the Backpack Program, $25 from RuthAnn Rinto for Cross Country FNDR, $100 from Nancy and Gary Milliken to Boys Soccer, $650 from the Class of 1977 to the Backpack Program and $388 from the Winona United Methodist Church to the Backpack Program.
