Cleveland man files appeals in drug case

LISBON — A Cleveland man sentenced to at least 10 years three months in prison for three separate indictments involving multiple drug charges and a weapons charge filed separate appeals to challenge each conviction.

Davante Jackson, also known as T.R. or TR, had the appeals filed recently in the Seventh District Court of Appeals in Youngstown for convictions in Columbiana County.

He was sentenced to at least five and a half years in prison for second-degree felonies of trafficking in fentanyl-related compound and possession of fentanyl-related compound, along with fifth-degree felonies of trafficking in drugs and possession of drugs and third-degree felony tampering with evidence.

The indictment alleged that Jackson prepared for sale and possessed fentanyl in an amount equal or greater than 10 grams but less than 20 grams, prepared for sale and possessed xylazine and tampered with evidence on Feb. 2, 2024.

He was sentenced to an additional two years nine months for second-degree felony possession of a fentanyl-related compound charge, third-degree felony tampering with evidence, misdemeanors of obstructing official business and resisting arrest, and fourth-degree felony possession of cocaine, with specifications for forfeiture of money in a drug case.

Charges of trafficking in a fentanyl-related compound and trafficking in cocaine were dismissed. He was also given a mandatory fine of $7,500 and was ordered to forfeit $863.

In that case, Jackson was accused of dropping a bag of narcotics after taking off on foot from officers who responded to an alleged drug deal in East Liverpool on April 3, 2023. A patrolman was injured while chasing him down and had to deploy his taser to stop Jackson. According to the indictment, he was attempting to sell and possessed fentanyl in an amount equal to or greater than 10 grams but less than 20 grams and also cocaine equal to or greater than 5 grams but less than 10 grams. He also possessed $863.

Jackson was sentenced to an additional two years in prison for third-degree felony having weapons while under disability for having a weapon on March 5, 2024 while prohibited from having a weapon due to a previous drug conviction.

The convictions were ordered served consecutively, for a total of 10 years three months.
