CHURCH HAPPENINGS

— LEETONIA — The Franklin Square United Methodist Church, 37615 state Route 558, will host a Bonfire and hot dog-marshmallow roast “out back” at 5 p.m. Aug. 11. The event will be a church reunion and all are welcome.

— COLUMBIANA — The Oasis Food Ministry will hold a food distribution from 4 to 6 p.m. Aug. 8 and Aug. 22 at First Christian Church, 39 Cherry St. Anyone 60 or older may stop from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 22.

— NEW WATERFORD — For the 11th consecutive year, Abundant Life Fellowship, 46469 state Route 46, will be distributing school supplies and clothing, serving grill food, passing out fresh produce and offering bounce houses and barrel train rides during August Overflow scheduled for today. In addition, the American Red Cross will be conducting a blood drive during the event, which runs from noon to 4 p.m. The school supply distribution is specifically for students in Crestview, Columbiana (including Heartland Christian), Leetonia, East Palestine, Lisbon, Beaver Local districts, and to home-schooled students in those districts as well as members of the five churches in the Crestview district. To receive school supplies, recipients must bring a report card from the previous school year and/or a driver’s license or document showing proof of residency in one of those districts. They are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, and there is no pre-registration. While those districts are the ones targeted for the event, students in other districts who have a need are welcome to show up. Grill food and other side dishes will be provided by the church. Fresh produce is coming from Second Harvest Food Bank. Also provided throughout the day will be prayer for anybody needing ministry for specific needs. Agency sponsors for August Overflow include the Columbiana Community Foundation and Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley. Among the corporate sponsors so far are NDC Heating & Cooling of New Waterford; Family Care Services of Columbiana, Leetonia and East Palestine; Little Red Hen Antiques & Collectibles of Salem; Linsley-Royal Funeral Home of East Palestine; Bayda Automotive of New Waterford; Ameriprise Financial of Youngstown. New sponsors so far this year are Graft Electric of Columbiana, Crestview Auto Body of New Waterford and Design Studio of Salem. — SALEM — The Women’s Association of the First Presbyterian Church is hosting a Gathering of Men, Teens and Pastors from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 10 at the First Presbyterian Church, 436 E. Second St. The event will include breakfast, music, fellowship and the program with featured speaker David Kohout, who has been instrumental in leadership training and teaching for more than 30 years. His topic will be “Talk is Cheap, You are NOT.” Kohout speaks to audiences of all ages, and has impacted the lives of over 700,000 students, staff and academic leaders over the last 11 years as the founder of Talk is Cheap Inc., a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that focuses on building character, establishing confidence and instilling HOPE in the lives of young people everywhere. Admission for this event will be free. A love offering will be taken for The R.O.C. of Salem youth center. Place reservations by calling the First Presbyterian Church at 330-337-9555 by Aug. 5.

— NORTH LIMA — The Good Hope Lutheran Church Picnic will be held at noon Aug. 4 at the church, 12030 Market St. The theme is “A Place to Feed the Body and Soul.” The event will feature meat, beverage and table service provided. Bring a side dish and/or dessert to complete the menu. Sign-ups will be posted. A hymn sing will follow the meal. Badminton, giant Jenga, croquet and other lawn games will be ready for play. Feel free to bring own favorite lawn games or a lawn chair to sit under the trees and watch. There will also be an opportunity to dress up in fancy clothes and take photos with family and friends. Consider bringing a raffle basket, a special hand-crafted item, or a special treasure for the auction or raffle.
