Kent State open houses

Kent State University’s Columbiana County campuses are hosting Discover Kent State open houses for parents and students to learn more about the programs offered locally. Kent State East Liverpool’s open house is Tuesday, March 12, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Mary Patterson Building, located at 213 E. Fourth St. Kent State Salem’s open house is Wednesday, March 13, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the main building located at 2491 state Route 45 South. At each event, faculty and staff members will be available to share information about specific degree programs and majors. Additionally, representatives will explain the admissions and transfer process; share financial aid information; provide details about scholarship opportunities; and lead tours of the facilities. For those who cannot attend an on-site event, a virtual session is scheduled for March 31 at 5:30 p.m. To register for a DKS session, or the virtual session, use the link at www.kent.edu/columbiana/admissions-events. ‘Little Shop of Horrors’

The Crestview Theatre Program will present Little Shop of Horrors on Friday, March 15 and Saturday, March 16 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, March 17 at 2 p.m. Ticket prices are $12 for adults and $10 for students and senior citizens. Tickets will be available at the door for all performances. Online ticketing is available now at www.crestviewmusic.com and will end at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13. Little Shop of Horrors is a horror comedy rock musical with music by Alan Menken and lyrics and book by Howard Ashman. The story follows a hapless florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human blood and flesh. The musical is loosely based on the low-budget 1960 comedy film The Little Shop of Horrors. The music, composed by Menken in the style of early 1960s rock and roll, doo-wop, and early Motown, includes several well-known tunes, including the title song, “Little Shop of Horrors,” “Skid Row (Downtown),” “Somewhere That’s Green,” and “Suddenly, Seymour.”

Hicks and Hayseeds 4-H

The Hicks and Hayseeds 4-H club met at the Browns’ home Tuesday.

The club members worked on their silent auction item and then president Rett Herring started pledges. After roll call, secretary report and treasurer’s report, Herring announced old business and upcoming dates.

The club saw demonstrations from Lucas Zehentbauer, Colt Knoedler and Colton Casto. Lucas showed how to make butter; Colt demonstrated his micro-lathe and how to turn wood on it; Colton explained how to walk a turkey.

Club members enjoyed a group game led by recreation officer Colt Knoedler.
