Jury trial set for Salem couple charged with raping two children

LISBON — The jury trial for a Salem man charged with rape and multiple other sex-related acts involving two children over multiple years is now set for 9 a.m. Dec. 8. Mark E. Knight, 58, North Ellsworth Avenue, will face a final status hearing at 9:20 a.m. Nov. 23 in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court before Judge Megan Bickerton. Knight’s co-defendant, Jan M. Salem community invited to meet with city employees, first responders

SALEM — The city of Salem will be offering residents an opportunity to meet city employees and first responders. “This event is an opportunity for our residents to meet face-to-face with the men and women who provide many of the important services that make our city a great place to live,” City Service Safety Director Joe Cappuzzello said. Parks commission discusses mosquito options

SALEM — The parks department will be reviewing options to address large mosquito populations in the parks. During the parks commission meeting on Wednesday, Mayor Cyndi Baronzzi Dickey said the mosquito populations at the dog park and surrounding areas were “extremely high” this year, and that it has become difficult to use those spaces as a result. She asked if the parks department had considered fogging in the area or other options to help control the populations, noting that the school’s cross-country team runs in the area, and several large events are held in that area ...
