Sheriff’s Office
— A man on South Mahoning Avenue, Knox Township reported at 6:23 p.m. Wednesday that his girlfriend stole his cell phone on April 13 from their bedroom, but she denies taking it. He called T-Mobile and the phone was taken out of their service.
— A man on Bye Road, Unity Township reported at 5:04 p.m. Wednesday that he purchased the residence and property next to his last month and served a woman and all occupants two weeks ago, for them to be out of the residence and off of the property on Wednesday, and they were still there. The eviction process was explained to him and he was told to contact an attorney.
— A deputy was dispatched at 10:33 p.m. Tuesday to U.S. Route 30, West Township for a domestic violence report. All parties involved separated for the night.
— A man on Center Road, Knox Township reported at 10:17 p.m. Tuesday that his neighbor was outside screaming that he is going to bury everyone. A deputy responded and had no contact with the neighbor outside yelling.
— A man on Gamble Road, Center Township reported at 10:12 p.m. Tuesday that a person was trespassing in his woods walking towards Sell Road. A deputy checked the property, but didn’t find anyone.
— Criminal damaging was reported at a property on U.S. Route 30, West Township at 8:24 p.m. Tuesday.
— Deputies were dispatched at 7:16 p.m. Tuesday to Leslie Road, Madison Township for a disturbance call for people screaming over a tractor. Deputies spoke with a couple who said a family member from Steubenville left the property before deputies arrived. There was a disagreement over a deceased family member’s tractor.
— Deputies were dispatched at 6:28 p.m. Tuesday to state Route 518, Franklin Township, for a person who called and said they were having suicidal thoughts, they need an ambulance to transport them to the hospital, and they’re with family. Upon arrival, Northstar EMS transported the person to Salem Regional Medical Center, Salem.
— A man on Echo Valley Road, Madison Township reported at 4:35 p.m. Tuesday that he lost his wallet,
— A man on Lisbon Road, Center Township reported at 2:55 p.m. Tuesday that he has a court order against him but was given a temporary court order by the judge to go back to his residence to get his clothes, but the woman won’t permit him to get them and sent his mail to another address. He was advised to contact his attorney or the courts.
— A disturbance was reported at 6:28 p.m. April 25 on Hadley Road, Unity Township between a homeowner and an Amazon driver. Deputies spoke to both parties and the Amazon driver left the property.
Salem
— Officers assisted the Goshen Township Police Department with a breath test for an OVI arrest at the police department at 1:54 a.m. Thursday.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of East Fourth Street at 10:09 p.m. Wednesday for a wellness check. The caller advised that their neighbor’s backdoor had been open since the night prior. Officers discovered that it was a communal door for the apartments, and it was shut.
— Officers responded to the 600 block of Franklin Avenue at 8:39 p.m. Wednesday for a reported warrant check. Officers spoke with the person in question, Vincent Rosati, 34, Salem, who was taken into custody and transported to the Columbiana County Jail.
— Officers responded to the 600 block of East Second Street at 8:27 p.m. Wednesday for a reported person to be removed. The caller advised that a person was lying at the front door. Officers spoke with the person and asked them to leave, and they did so.
— Officers responded to the 900 block of Highland Avenue at 6:14 p.m. Wednesday for a wellness check. Officers were unable to speak with the woman in question, but a dispatcher was later able to speak with the woman by phone, and she advised that she was okay.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of West Third Street at 3:23 p.m. Wednesday for a reported animal complaint. Officers located the dog and secured it. Officers also attempted contact with the owner but were unable to speak with them.
— Officers responded to the 1500 block of Cleveland Street at 2:54 p.m. Wednesday for a reported juvenile problem. Officers observed the juvenile to be having a possible medical issue, and the fire department and EMT responded and transported the juvenile to an appropriate medical facility for further evaluation.
— The school resource officer was advised by Southeast Elementary administrators that a student had not been to school for several days, and they were worried about their well-being at 2:21 p.m. Wednesday. Officers spoke with the students and their parents and found them to be okay. They had doctor’s appointments that day and the day prior, and that was why they had not been in school. The student appeared to be fine and nothing else was needed.
— Officers responded to the 800 block of Franklin Avenue at 2:03 p.m. Wednesday for a reported unruly juvenile. The parents advised that the juvenile is acting out and not handing over a cell phone while punished. Officers spoke with the juvenile and advised them to cease their behavior. The juvenile ultimately turned over the cell phone to a parent.
— Officers responded to the 900 block of East Pershing Street at 2:57 p.m. Wednesday for a reported 911 hang-up call. Officers discovered the address where the call originated from no longer exists. Officers checked the area and found there to be no emergencies.
— Officers responded to the area of South Lincoln Avenue and East Pershing Street at 12:17 p.m. Wednesday to direct traffic while the electrical department fixed a traffic light. Officers did so with no issues until they were no longer needed.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of East Fourth Street at 9:47 p.m. Tuesday for a reported vicious dog. The caller advised they were walking a small dog in the area between North Ellsworth Avenue and West School Street, and that while walking on East Sixth Street two large pit-bull like dogs broke out of the front door of a home and mauled the smaller dog. After the two dogs were pulled off by a possible owner, the caller rushed the smaller dog to a veterinary hospital where it succumbed to its injuries. The case is ongoing as officers were unable to locate the exact area of the attack from the limited information available.
— Officers responded to the 1900 block of Whinnery Road at 6:43 p.m. Tuesday for a reported juvenile problem. A juvenile male was taken into custody and charged with domestic violence. The juvenile was transported to the police department for processing and then transported to the Louis Tobin Attention Center to await their court hearing.
— Officers responded to the 1000 block of East Third Street at 1:29 p.m. Tuesday for a report of criminal damaging. The caller advised that they noticed someone had cut their outdoor lights sometime during the night and that they needed a report on file. Officers documented the damage done to the lights.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of South Broadway Avenue at 11 a.m. Tuesday for a report of illegal dumping. Officers observed where a person had placed several bags of trash near the rear door of a business. Officers were able to obtain a description of the vehicle and will attempt to locate the person involved.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of Columbia Street at 6:38 a.m. Tuesday for a reported person to be removed. The caller advised that they had gotten into an argument with the person in question, who was intoxicated, and wanted them to leave the property. Officers advised the man he had to leave, and he was able to arrange a ride home and do so.
Perry Township
— Officers responded to the 1400 block of West State Street at 6:41 p.m. Sunday for a reported of an intoxicated man with injuries. The man had punched his window and cut his hand, and he was transported to the Salem Regional Medical Center by EMT.
— Officers responded to the area of U.S. Route 62 for a reported reckless operator at 4:49 a.m. Sunday. The vehicle continued eastbound into the city, and the Salem Police Department conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. Officers stood by for assistance until the traffic stop was concluded.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of Benton Road at 2:13 a.m. Sunday for a reported medical call. The caller advised that he was having a manic episode and was transported by EMT.
— Officers responded to the area of Goshen Road near Pine Lake Road at 10:38 p.m. Saturday for a reported reckless operator. The vehicle was found just inside of Goshen Township, and the Goshen Township Police District was advised of the incident. When speaking with the driver, officers found them to be elderly and lost. Officers advised Goshen of the same.
— Officers responded to the area of U.S. Route 62 at 8:54 p.m. Saturday for a possible reckless operator. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the person in question.
— Officers responded to the 1100 block of Prospect Street at 5:23 p.m. Saturday for a report of vandalism. The caller’s tire had been punctured on the side wall, and they advised that they had been having disputes with another woman in the apartment complex. Officers spoke with the woman who advised they had not been around the caller’s property.
— Officers located a man that was being sought by Salem officers for suspicious behavior at 4:36 p.m. Saturday in the 300 block of Benton Road. Officers stopped the man and spoke with him, and Salem officers also responded to speak with them.
— Officers responded to the 1100 block of Prospect Street at 6:41 p.m. Friday for a wellness check. The caller advised they had come to the property for a custody exchange, but nobody was answering the door. Officers attempted unsuccessfully to make contact at the residence and observed no vehicle present in the parking spots in front of the residence.
— Officers responded to the 1600 block of Van Buren Avenue at 8:33 p.m. Thursday for a reported 911 hang-up call. When officers arrived, the caller was having difficulty breathing and was not initially responding to verbal instructions. When they began responding, they advised that they were punched in the chest by their brother and having chest pains. EMT responded and transported them for further evaluation. The brother had left prior to officers’ arrival, and a witness advised they and the caller had been drinking and that when the brother followed the caller to their bedroom and stood in the doorway, she grabbed a baseball bat. The brother then allegedly grabbed the caller by the shirt and threw her down.
— Officers responded to the 900 block of Stewart Road at 9:11 p.m. April 22 for a shooting complaint. Officers checked the area and everything was quiet. Officers stayed in the area for several minutes before clearing and didn’t hear anything.
— Officers responded to the 1300 block of West State Street at 4:59 p.m. April 22 for a wellness check. The caller advised that they believed their grandson was hallucinating and had a handgun. Salem officers were requested for assistance and after investigating, officers found the handgun to be a realistic looking air pistol. EMT responded to evaluate the man and a refusal of treatment was signed.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of Prospect Street at 3:21 p.m. April 22 for a reported low-hanging wire. Officers observed the wire in question to be a cable wire which was still connected to the pole and the caller’s house and was not hanging lower than normal.
Lisbon
— An officer was dispatched at 1:55 p.m. April 25 to the area of Market Street and Beaver Street to look for an Amazon truck that took $20 worth of gasoline from Smith Oil on East Lincoln Way. The officer found the truck and initiated a traffic stop on Beaver Street near Pine Street and spoke with the driver, who said the clerk mistakenly placed $20 of gas onto his pump and he didn’t realize it until after. He said the cashier came out and demanded the $20, but he said he wasn’t able to pay the $20 since he had an Amazon credit card. He was told he was free to go since it was the cashier’s mistake. The officer went to Smith Oil and spoke to the clerk who said a customer prepaid $20 worth of gas and she accidentally put it on the wrong pump. She went outside to see if he would pay the $20 since he used up $20 free dollars, but said he got nasty with her by using profanity and drove off. She was told charges couldn’t be pursued since it was her mistake. The officer offered to pay her the $20, but another customer had already done it.
— Officers responded at 2:55 p.m. April 23 to North Market Street regarding a pet complaint in the 300 block. Officers spoke to a woman regarding a custody dispute over two black cats between her two sons. An agreement had been put in place years ago that said whatever child moved out of the home first could take the animals with them. One son acquired a place and took possession of the cats, upsetting the other son. She wanted to know how to handle her son if he showed up at the house upset, before then advising she believed it was a civil call.
— Officers were dispatched at 2:20 p.m. April 21 to the area of Saltwell Road for a welfare check after a man fell and the caller assisted him to get back up but was concerned he was acting disoriented. Officers made contact with the man who they said appeared to be behaving in his normal fashion. He denied needing an ambulance or a courtesy ride home.
— Officers responded to the area of state Route 154 and BP for a report at 5:02 p.m. April 20 of a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on state Route 154. Upon arrival, the vehicle was already stopped by a Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office deputy. Officers stood by until no longer needed.
— Officers responded to Continuing Healthcare, Vista Drive, for a report at 4:10 p.m. April 20 of an irate man who busted through a door. Workes told officers they believed the man needed to be pink slipped and they were willing to fill out the form. A pink slip is a way to force someone to go to a hospital. Officers requested North Star EMS to respond and they transported the man to East Liverpool City Hospital.
— At 11:27 p.m. April 19, an officer initiated a traffic stop on state Route 154 at state Route 11 when a truck failed to reduce speed and move over for emergency lights for another traffic stop, learning the passenger, Daniel Lattanzio, had an active warrant out of Sandusky for failure to appear. He was taken into custody and the driver was cited for failure to yield to emergency lights. The driver’s name wasn’t listed on the report. The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to pick up Lattanzio and transport him to Sandusky.
— At 4:27 a.m. April 19 on Grant Street south of the bridge, police initiated a traffic stop with Adam Harrington, 40, McGeehan Road, Lisbon who was charged with operating a vehicle impaired, OVI refusal with prior within 20 years, expired license and marked lanes.
— A noise complaint was reported at 1:08 a.m. April 19 at Shenanigans Pub. An officer spoke with the owner who said he would turn the music down.
— An officer at 11:49 p.m. April 18 saw a Dodge truck swerving and failing to maintain lane while eastbound on Lincoln Way, traveling left of center three times, with a traffic stop initiated. Robert Gomola Jr. was charged with operating a vehicle impaired second offense, OVI refusal with prior within 20 years and left of center.
— A resident on North Jefferson Street reported at 4:14 a.m. April 17 that his son was missing and had not come home from work at the VFW and it was unusual and he was concerned. While an officer was speaking with him, his son came home and said he had been at Shenanigans partying because it was the last weekend they would be open.
— At 7:17 a.m. April 13, a downed power line was reported on North Beaver Street, with a metal cable hanging over one of the power line in the southbound lane of traffic. On the end of the metal cable, there was a wood piece attached. A member of the Lisbon Fire Department pulled up and said it was safe to grab the wood and pull it to the side. The cable was moved and Ohio Edison was notified of the issue.
— A noise complaint was reported at 1:09 a.m. April 13 in the 700 block of Sunset Drive, with an officer observing water shooting out of the cracks on the street. Officers talked to the homeowner and checked the house for noise. Officers determined there was a water leak and notified the water department.
— At 1:50 a.m. April 12, an officer responded to the 300 block of West Lincoln Way for a suspicious man, finding a 19-year-old who seemed confused and thought he was at his own residence. He had a cut under his chin and one on his eyebrow. Officers determined he had been drinking and found alcohol on him. He was unaware of where he was or that he had knocked over the homeowner’s grill. He was offered EMS, agreed to it and was transported to a hospital for his injuries. Later that day, an officer contacted the homeowners about the damage to their grill and they said nothing was really damaged.
