Perry Township voters to see new police levy on November ballot

PERRY TOWNSHIP — Perry Township voters will be presented with the question of a new levy for the police department in November. During its meeting Monday, the board of trustees unanimously approved a resolution to place a new 1.5-mill property tax levy for the police department on the ballot in the upcoming November election. The proposed levy has a five-year collection period beginning in tax year 2026 and continuing through tax year 2030. Local mayors connect with teachers during ESC bootcamp

LISBON — Mayors from local communities were able to visit the Columbiana County Educational Service Center and speak to teachers during the ESC’s recent Teacher Bootcamp. The Bootcamp, which was held last week, was a way for local teachers to see first-hand the available careers in Columbiana County. Columbiana approves annual Street Fair, with some minor changes

COLUMBIANA — The city’s annual Street Fair received approval from City Council recently, and this year’s event will include a few minor changes. Street Fair organizer Jacob Sevek of the Columbiana American Legion presented the plans to council last week. The 139th annual Street Fair will take place Sept. 10-12. “There are some changes this year, thanks to progress on Main Street and uptown, so I am very excited about it,” Sevek said. Former Liverpool Township police chief in trouble again

LISBON — Former Liverpool Township police chief Jayson Jackson is facing another domestic violence charge, this time a felony, for punching a woman several times during a domestic which started Sunday night. Jackson, 53, Campground Road, Wellsville appeared via video for arraignment Monday morning in Columbiana County Municipal Court for a fourth-degree felony charge. A preliminary hearing is now set for 1 p.m. Aug. 3. He was released from the county jail Monday after posting bond, which was set at $30,000 cash or surety. United Local starts work on Capital Plan

HANOVERTON — The United Local School District is beginning work on a Capital Plan for the district. The idea for a Capital Plan was broached by Board of Education member RuthAnn Rinto in June. At that time, District Treasurer Melissa Baker said that she and Superintendent Lance Hostetler agreed there is a need for a Capital Plan.
