Wastewater plant works out the kinks on upgrades

SALEM — Some system hiccups continue as work winds down on phase three upgrades at the wastewater treatment plant. Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager Dean Stokes told the utilities commissioners in their June meeting that issues with the sludge conditioning building’s main flow meter reading incorrectly still had not been resolved despite ongoing collaboration with Centrisys to diagnose and correct the route issue in recent months. Man charged with assault found not guilty by reason of insanity

LISBON — A Washingtonville man found not guilty by reason of insanity in 2024 for felonious assault and other charges will remain on conditional release in the community. David Kirby, 34, West Main Street, appeared recently in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court for a mandatory one-year review hearing regarding the conditional release, with Judge Megan Bickerton noting he’s still a mentally ill person based on a report from the Forensic Psychiatric Center of Northeast Ohio. Former Lock 24 building gets new lease on life

ELKTON (WKBN) — A historic Columbiana County landmark is entering a new chapter. A barn along Route 154 in Elkton that dates back to the 1830s is under new ownership. Most people know the property as Lock 24, but now it’s called the 1830 Gathering Place. The building has seen many businesses come and go throughout the years. Columbiana schools give updates on improvements

COLUMBIANA — Upgrades are ongoing for the Columbiana School District. In addition to the improvements at the Ward Athletic Complex, the district is also continuing to update heating and air conditioning units and is looking into a roofing project. District Superintendent Dr. Don Mook briefed the board on the HVAC and roofing projects this month, after first providing a brief update on the athletic improvements.
