United Local implements new grading scale for high school

HANOVERTON — A new grading scale is in place for United Local High School students for the new school year. The new scale is included in the student handbooks the board of education approved during the Aug. 15 meeting. The board originally approved going back to the 10-point grading scale earlier this year with it effective for high school students beginning this school year. As a result, an A grade is 90-100, B is 80-89, C is 70-79, and so forth. Crestview kicks off school year with renewed excitement

COLUMBIANA — The Crestview Local School district kicked off its first day of school on Thursday, and District Superintendent Dan Hill said he is excited for the new school year. Toronto woman pleads guilty to having knife at Utica Shale Academy

LISBON — A woman accused of having a knife on the grounds of the Utica Shale Academy school in Salineville earlier this year admitted her guilt Thursday. Britania B. Brown, 45, Toronto, pleaded guilty to illegal conveyance or possession of a deadly weapon or dangerous ordnance in a school safety zone, a fifth-degree felony, for allegedly having the knife out in the school parking lot on Jan. 14. Greenford Ruritan Club won’t attend Canfield Fair this year

CANFIELD (WKBN) — After 60 years of pancakes and chicken dinners, the Greenford Ruritan Club will not attend this year’s Canfield Fair. Salem health board reminds residents about rabies baiting

SALEM — Wildlife rabies vaccination baiting is ongoing in Columbiana County and others across northeast Ohio.
