County park board to hold special meeting to discuss administrative assistant position

LISBON — The Columbiana County Park District Board will hold an emergency meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at board offices, Maple Street, Lisbon to hire a new administrative assistant. According to an email from board Vice Chairman Eileen Dray-Bardon, administrative assistant Mark Guy resigned on Friday. Guy was hired by the previous board in February and just last week was reclassified as permanent part-time, which made him eligible for paid time off.

Salem school board updated on new state laws impacting public schools

SALEM — The board of education was updated on new state laws that will impact public schools in its meeting Monday. Superintendent Jamie Kemats updated the board on new requirements set by House Bill 96 which concern attendance reporting and Senate Bill 19 which Kemats said implements new math curriculum requirements similar to the science of reading guidelines implemented by House Bill 33 in 2023. Deputies were unable to make contact at the residence, but the person later called and said the caller was an ex-boyfriend and only wanted to know where she was. A deputy tried to call him back, but he did not answer and his voicemail was full. — A deputy on patrol at 2:14 a.m. Saturday located a vehicle in the Pit Stop parking lot, state Route 164, Wayne Township.
