Crestview bowlers shy of state LORAIN — Wellsville junior twins Madelyn and Makayla Landess came up just short of Division II state tournament berths at the district bowling tournament Saturday at Rebman Recreation. Madelyn Landess finished in 11th place with a 526 series (144-166-216), which was 24 pins shy of a state berth. Makayla Landess, the Warren sectional champion, was 16th with a 514 series (146-186-192). LEAVITTSBURG — Back on Dec. 5, the Crestview boys basketball team opened the season with a tough loss to LaBrae. From Staff Reports CLEVELAND — Salem senior Ryan Folger earned his third trip to the Div. II state swimming meet by earning an automatic berth in the 100-yard butterfly on Friday at the district meet at Cleveland State University. Folger shaved almost 4 seconds off his sectional time to finish third (50.51). The top three individuals and top two relay teams on Friday earned automatic bids to the Div. LORAIN — No area bowlers advanced out of the Division II district tournament Friday at Rebman Lanes, but several girls will get a shot at it Saturday. Crestview senior Brody Brubaker topped area boys by tying for 17th place with a 601 series, which was 38 pins shy of a state berth. He had games of 216-196-189. East Palestine hosts USA watch party

EAST PALESTINE — A gold medal watch party to cheer on former East Palestine student and Team USA hockey player J.T. Miller will be held Sunday morning at the East Palestine High School auditorium. Doors will open at 7:30 a.m. with the USA-Canada hockey match in the Olympic final to start at 8:10 a.m. Fans are encouraged to wear red, white and blue and to bring signs. Miller attended East Palestine schools through his sophomore year until moving to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to join the United States National Team Development Program. See page B2 for more on USA hockey.
