The Ohio Senate passed a bill designating a portion of state Route 11 in honor of Nicholas P. Cayton, an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper killed Oct. 16. The Senate on Wednesday unanimously passed the legislation sponsored by state Sen. Al Cutrona, R-Canfield, to name a section of state Route 11 between U.S. Route 224 and Leffingwell Road the “Trooper Nicholas P. Salem police officer resigns under threat of termination

SALEM—A Salem police officer has resigned under the threat of termination. According to the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) record portal, Officer Michael Wirkner has resigned from the department in lieu of termination effective May 11. In a press release issued Thursday, the department confirmed that it had received “a complaint regarding alleged violations of the Ohio Revised Code and departmental policies” on April 20. Box truck accident closes Route 45 Thursday morning

SALEM — Both lanes of state Route 45 from Somerset Drive in Perry Township to state Route 558/Teegarden Road in Salem Township were closed for a short time Thursday morning after a northbound box truck overturned. COLUMBIANA — A Springfield Road resident is asking the city to have a traffic light installed at the state Route 14 and Springfield Road intersection.
