FIRE

Salem — A vehicle fire was reported in the 400 block of West Sixth Street at 8:36 p.m. Friday. When firefighters arrived, they located a Jeep Wrangler in the driveway of a residence with smoke in the passenger compartment but no obvious flames. A water can was brought to the car, and firefighters found a small flame inside the vehicle on the floorboard under the steering wheel which was extinguished. The vehicle’s battery was disconnected, the vehicle was checked with a thermal imaging camera to ensure there were no hot spots, and the damage was photographed.

Alliance man identified as person who threatened Knox school

BELOIT — The individual charged for making a threat toward the Knox school building has been identified. Austin Offill, 19, Alliance, was arrested Friday by the Alliance Police Department, charged with third-degree felony making terroristic threats for allegedly posting three comments on unrelated YouTube videos stating that he “wanted to shoot up Knox.” Those threats prompted the building to temporarily close Aug. 26-28 before re-opening Aug. 31 with a police officer stationed at the building during the school day.
